Hi All,
I am hoping to purchase the Dlink DCS-5300 internet camera, but have some questions that I hope you can help out. On Dlink's website, it does not specify that the DCS-5300 can record to network-attached storage (NAS) as in the case of the DCS-950. Is this true? If so, then one has to use a dedicated, local PC's hardware to store the video? Finally, what other cameras that are with similar spec. to the DCS-5300? Any recommendations?
Thank you so much!

Hi Stang,
I'm not to sure if the DCS-5300 has the NAS feature. I checked out the website and I couldn't find anything as well. I don't think it does, but I am not 100% sure. An option is for you to use a PC within the network to run D-Links software that would record to your NAS server.
As for similar cameras to the DCS-5300..... You could check out Hawkings HNC700PT and 4XEM's IPCAMWPT. They have the same specs and could possibly be cheaper depending on where you would purchase your cameras from. _________________ Administrator

Hi Wes,
Thanks for the quick response! I was out of town for the holidays and didn't get a chance to say thanks!
Well, my hunt continues. I am still looking for a simple, pan/tilt ip camera for home use. Over the weekend, I came across the Sony SNC-M3, which is the lowest priced pan/tilt camera. But I was susprised to not find anywhere that says it can record to a local PC hard-drive. Is this true? It is unsual because all ip cameras that I came across can record to hard-drive. Thanks again!

Hi Stang,
Glad I can help!
As for the recording.....it's usually not the camera doing the recording but the software. Sony doesn't throw in recording software with their cameras so you have to buy it. It can get a bit expensive for recording software. I would suggest D-Link or 4XEM, both come with free recording software. Either than that, you can check out our Network Camera Software page and see what companies could help you out. I am currently trying to learn about which software is best. Right now I am fooling around with Milestone software which is great stuff. I think it is just a bit pricey though. _________________ Administrator
