Please forgive me if this is a stupid question but I am new to the IP camera scene...

Is there a device like a pc but not a pc, that can connect straight to the router, that controls all the ip cameras, and has a built in web server, and recording software with say motion detection and multiple camera view, and has a slot for a large hdd to save recorded events and such..... I guess kind of like a DVR but for ip cameras and has no need for a moniter of its own, just all remote connecting to it? And VERY reliable not like a pc with Windows on it with a software that runs everything....

I hope that made sence.... even if someone could point me toward a link where I could read more on these setups i dont mind reading and learning.

Thank you in advance.

Chad

Ok I think I have found them, and the lowest price one I can see is $5,000 lol wow, I think they are calling them a "NVR" and damn are they expensive!!

Anyone know of a non commercial NVR that can work with say 4 cameras or less?

Hi Turbo,

I don't have a particular product to recommend, but just thought I'd say that just about any NVR/DVR that will do what you ask is going to have an embedded copy of Windows or at least some flavor of linux. Embedded Windows is supposed to be more reliable than standard desktop OS's since the idea is to cut out the garbage that an appliance doesn't need.

Hopefully you can find an applianced based IP solution that fits your needs for a more attractive price.

Check out, http://www.c-mor.us

That's a web based camera server which records the IP cameras, does
motion detection etc etc.

It also has a litte front display to setup the IP address in a very easy way!
