|
|
Hello,
Recently I have purchased an Axis 207w network camera. I hooked it up to my Belkin F5D9630AU4A wireless ADSL modem/router. Within the network everything works fine. I can access the camera without problems. I can also ping all the networklocations. My conputer runs on Windows XP.
In the virtual server compartment of the router I added the IP address of the camera, opened the ports 80 and enabled the portforwarding. In the camera the http port is set on 80 also. Next to this I gave the camera fixed IP address.
Now using my public IP with the opened port it should work right? But it doesn't When I check my public IP through Shields Up I can not seem to find an open port. It says 'stealth'.
I would appreciate all suggestions! I really need this to work so that our family abroad can check in on our newborn daughter.
Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paullie
Y don't really want to use port 80 as your cameras external port as that is the default port for all http traffic and the one you use internally to access your camera.
If your camers internal address is 192.168.0.90 (for example) and your exernal address is 82.1.1.1. Inside your network you canm type 192.168.0.90 or 192.168.0.90:80 to access your camera.
You now need to pick a port to use for external access (>2000 is good, I like things like 9876, easy to remember!) On your router you then need to go into the Port Address Translation settings NAT (Maybe hidden in NAT or Network Address Translation) and tell your router that all external traffic coming to your IP address 82.1.1.1 on port 9876 should be directed to the camera 192.168.0.90. External access to your camera would then be 82.1.1.1:9876
If you can access your camera inside your network, you do not need to do any more configuration on it, only the router.
If you have a dynamic IP address, you may want to register with dyndns.org and get a static hostname that will keep track of your dynamicly assigned IP address so you don't need to keep checking it. This would make your cameras addresss something like: http://paulie1971.homeip.org:9876 which is also a lot easier to remember than a random number like an IP address!
