Hello,

my name is Mike i'm new here and i'm searching an not so expensive PTZ (Pan/Tilt/Zoom) IP-Cam which i can control with Java in my Browser because ActiveX is blocked here Systemwide. i know Sony IP-Cams but they are up 2400 Euro too expensive for me. I can spend up to 500 Euro for a IP-Cam.

thanx in advance

Mike

Well if I now recommend you the y-cam black of course many people will say that this only supports active x, however Y-Cam presented last week on cebit exhibition in germany their new model, which has the same design, but a couple of new features:

It supports MPEG4, MJPEG, RTSP - so you can watch it with your real player or through a firefox browser without the need to have an activex component installed.

it also has an internal buffer for saving pictures. Of course it is a wlan camera, with IRs for supporting dark room viewing.

The new y-cam black will be available within the next couple of weeks, as I was told by a y-cam representative

The current activex model is about 200 so I think the new model will be below 250

If you can afford to wait 2 or 3 more weeks this will be your camera for sure.

Dwayne, is the y-cam sold in the US? All the links I find are for the UK.

Haylebob, http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=5Tu&resnum=0&q=sony+P1+camera&um=1&ie=UTF-8
It doesn't look like it is PTZ though.

Does this mean the new version will stream live video to a Windows Mobile PDA? (I assume the current ActiveX version of the y-cam black would not??)

if you have the mobile version of real player installed - Yes., and yes the current version would not.

it has 2 different links for use with rtsp, one has the resolution 640 x 480, the other for use with mobile equipment.

Is the "new version" just a firmware upgrade? Could I buy the current version now and later upgrade it to work with Real Player? We have a new baby, so I don't want to wait too long to get a camera.

Try Google if someone suggests a make & model you were not aware of or possibly even Sony's web site? The P1 is an entry level camera from Sony aimed at the home user or small office which for the money is not a bad
camera.

As for my "expert" status, yes I am regarded as one though I would never profess to know everything, I tend to look at these forums each morning if I'm not out on site and I'll answer what I can. People like you making comments like that make me wonder why the heck I do bother trying to help... But as per your request, I'll stop "spamming" you - you might want to look up the definition of spam for future reference...
