here is what I need....a camera with a webhost that takes quality still pictures.

going to be used in a rural area where weather is a problem for pilots, so they want us to put up a webcam to help them detect what the weather is out.

currently we have cameras hooked up to windows xp systems, but they're hoaky and break regularly. and we have to FTP the image to view it from a web site.

I want something I can point the website to so the bandwidth minimal

I do want a high quality image though!

don't need video or audio.

Thanks in advance.

Mobotix M12D - NOT the cheapest camera on the market at face value but packed with goodies that can be of huge additional benefit to the pilots including an optional "weather station" that can be simply coneced to the camera and embed the stats into the image ie wind speed, direction, temperature, humidity etc etc etc. The camera is PoE and can be installed outside without the need for housings or heaters etc and with no moving parts, they just don't go wrong! No additionalsoftware is required, it's as close to an off the shelf solution you'll find and it's a bloody good one to boot!

Some of the software out there lets you overlay other images so you can put time, weather, logos and stuff up. The problem with most of these cameras is they are at best 640x480 and even that is compressed so much that you don't get that sharp as a tack pic you expect. Sure you can spend $1,500+ for Mobtix but that's serious money to most as a fun thing to do. Just make sure it's at least 1 megapixels, then you will get the quality you want. What's ironic is that you can buy a 2 megapixal still camera for $29 that takes better still pictures than a $1,000 video camera and most of the time that's all we want, just a still every minute or so.
