Hey Guys and Gals.

Im looking for a camera that can record at night pretty decently. The whole situation is there has been a number of automotive breaks-in/thefts in our neighborhood and I am trying to get something that can record at night our street/driveway which is about 20Feet distance to help out the police with anything they can get evidence wise.

The camera couldbe mounted externally or internally and I would like for it to come with its own software so I can record/schedule accordingly.

Moition sensor/pan tilt would be nice but its not really necessary. It does not have to be wireless since I can run the wire but what ever works.

I have plenty of HD space so recording is not a issue!

Let me know Thanks yall! Smile

Hi Kanundrum

For a budget like that I wouldn't think there is much you would be able to get which will produce a useable image. The Y-Cam Black / Y-Cam Knight might have been an option ( review: http://www.networkwebcams.co.uk/blog/2007/10/12/on-test-y-cam-black/) but it is still slightly over your budget, and it is an indoor camera. The Y-Cam Black / Y-Cam Knight have built in IR LEDs which illuminate up to 12metres away. This, however, means that it cannot be put behind a window as the light reflects off the glass and effectivley glares out the image. There is an outdoor housing expected but I have no idea when that is likely to be.

Alternatively, something like a Panasonic BL-C1A might be a possibility as it offers a color night view mode. This, however, will require at least soem street lighting on the subject as the minimum light level is 4lux.

I think you'll most likely either need external lighting or a higher budget i'm afraid.

James

Thanks for the Information.

The scope of my venture has chaanged a bit.

I do not mind buying some NON-IP based cameras and implementing a DVR solution on my home PC. (That was my main goal anyways)

Basically i want to be able to look at my cameras from my computer. Record a Months worth of Footage 24x7 a Day ( Because i keep my computer on most of the time anyways) I have enough hard drive space to do that. I would like it setup on a daily basis with a proper DVR card to allow input of 2 cameras and proper software to set it up accordingly.

What do you think

What can I use for Cameras for Night/Day (Non IP based)
A DVR Capture Card,
and Software ( Free would be best but i don't mind paying)
