I have a dlink ip camera and i want to view it via internet if ever I'm away from home.

I have already setup an account in DynDns.org and I have downloaded an updater so that if ever my public ip (w/c is dynamic) changes it automatically updates the my account.

during the setup of my account in DynDns.org I also created a new Host (xxx.homedns.org) w/c I presume this is where I will be able to access my camera.

With that, I set up my router's (DI-624) DDNS and Port Forwarding settings.

DDNS: Enabled
Server Address: DynDns.org
Host Name: xxx.homedns.org
Username: xxx
Password: xxx

Port Forwarding: Enabled
Name: camera1
Private IP: 192.168.0.55
Protocol Type: both
Private Port: 80
Public Port: 80
Schedule: Always

On my camera's setting, likewise, I enabled the DDNS and used the same setting as above.

after the setup, I typed in the address of my hostname, xxx.homedns.org and to my surprise it actually connected to my ip camera. It asked for the username password and everything worked fine except the video feed. Shocked

for some reason I am able to access the webpage as well as the settings of my camera but I cannot get a video feed. Sad

the video screen stays blank and a status message on top only says "connecting to xxx.homedns.org..."

anybody has experienced the same problem? Rolling Eyes

any help much appreciated. Thanks in advance! Smile

try using an alternative public port, 80 is a standard http port so will work fin internally but you may have problems externally. 8080 is a common one or anything >8000 so your external address will be:

xxx.homedns.org:8080

Thanks for your reply dude

I currently have this configuration with my 2 cameras.

Camera1:
priv port: 80
pub port: 80

Camera2:
priv port: 80
pub port: 81

when I try to access them via internet what I type to access camera1 is just xxx.homedns.org

while, to access camera2 I type xxx.homedns.org:81

I tried doing what you said w/c was change the public port of Camera 2. I tried the xxx.homedns.org:8081 but this doesn't work only :81 works, but then again even if the port is 81 still no video feed.

I will try to experiment on the ports again.

still needing help... Crying or Very sad

looking at your last post it looks like you have only forwarded one local ip address try checking the ip address of both cameras and set up port forwarding of both local ips on your router.

hey MutzNutz what do you mean by forwarding both local ips? where's that setting in the router? I could access both camera's "page" but I don't get a video feed, I think it's the camera's setting? not sure though... Sad

It's working now again! Very Happy

I disabled Camera2's port forwarding both in the camera and router's setting and just reset Camera1 by disabling the "Allow UPnP port forwarding", then enabling it again.

Cam1 works fine now, don't want to experiment on Cam2 yet since I'll be out on vacation for 4 days Very Happy

You may not be having this problem, but afaik, homedns.org is one of dyndns.org's domains.
dyndns.org support told me a year or two ago that they cut off d-link camera queries because they violated their conditions. Namely, they flooded the heck out of their servers because the dynamic dns client was NOT written properly. SO, if you happen to have a netgear or linksys router, you might consider using THAT dynamic dns client instead of the one built into the cameras. If it's working, you might have an updated firmware where dlink finally fixed it.

Of course, d-link denied it up until the firmware was updated. Even dyndns.org wasn't very informative about it after the first guy that told me about it... It was always, "we have a list of approved clients on the website."

Hope that helps. Maybe it will help someone...
