External Speakers, Two-Way Audio

I own a 4xem wireless PTZ camera with 2-way audio.

I hooked up the camera to external speakers using the a/v cable (came with the camera), a y-adapter, and my set of Altec Lansing computer speakers. The sound or audio quality was not very good. Many spoken words were hard or impossible to understand.

I then connected the a/v cable directly to the audio/video ports on my flat screen TV (using no adapter), and the audio quality was still poor.

I am wondering if this is a shortcoming of the camera? Is there a speaker (make and model) available to get the best external sound quality from this camera? Thanks!
