I am looking for a simulation software for a IP cam.
What I want to do is to test the surveillance software without a real IP cam.
Does any know where I can get some useful information ? I have struggled with google for a long time.

Thanks.
John

John,

What do you want to test, and will it be worthwhile?

If you just want to play back from a file, then probably any video (converted to a format appropriate for the software you are testing) will do - I have seen control room demos playing Disney DVDs or pop videos. But surely this will only prove that it can play a file?

I guess for a useful test you'd actually like a network video feed - so that you can prove that the software can find a feed at an IP address, take that feed and work with it.

Probably a lot simpler to buy a cheap network camera?

I did once find somebody on Google selling videos of traffic to test ANPR systems!!

you can try this.

download webcamxp, and set up a movie being played, or use frequent screenshots to be made.
name this camera cam_1
set up the port to something unused, eg 8080
if you run your surveillance soft on the same machine setit up to use a cam with single jpg support and direct it to localhost:8080/cam_1.jpg

this should do it.

Hi Dwayne,

webcamxp could only broadcast as a webserver. I need to simulate a real camera. For example, Axis 206,206, or 207.

I just found a website and it looks like what I want.

Anyway, thanks for your help.

Axis has a camera simulator tool that I think it is available to developer partners only.

"AXIS Virtual Camera gives you the possibility to scale up your application tests by simulating a large number of real cameras.

Replace a Motion JPEG or MPEG-4 steam with one that is previously recorded, or replace generic streams or web pages creating the appearance that they come from a true device."

It is for MSWin only.
