I am on a tight budget for work. They are requiring me to look for 5 indoor IP cameras to watch timeclocks and 2 outdoor IP cameras with at least a 5-50mm lens.

Can anyone recommend inexpensive, but decent cameras?

Thanks.

If you already have analog cameras, you should look at video encoders, which can take existing analog cameras and IP-enable them.

Starting from scratch, we find that for someone on a budget, ACTi & Vivotek offer good value and sometimes very good quality.

Outdoor IP cameras with that type of lens will most likely require you to purchase a box camera, with a custom lens and a fixed camera enclosure.

What kind of budget are you working with?

Can ACTi cameras be accessed by Firefox or Safari? In searches, I'm finding accounts where Internet Explorer is required.

Ultimately I'd like to run a script on my linux server that collects the camera data, maybe applies a motion detection filter, and throws away data older than 30 days.

Is anyone doing anything like this without Windows?
