Hi all,
I don't know if this is possible but...
I'm in the process of installing a wired cam in my garage, the routing of the Cat5 is awkward but no way impossible and probably no more than 20 foot max in a straight line but wireless would be easier.
Now I've got a TPLink TL-WR340G wireless router sitting here doing nothing and the question is could I connect the wired cam to it and use it as an access point/bridge to connect to my Netgear DG834GT wireless router I have in the house to save running Cat5 everywhere?
So Wired Cam----->TL-WR340G ... wireless bridge/AP ... DG834GT---->Home Network.
I'm sure I've read somewhere that you can do this..
Thanks

I have an TP-LINK TL-WA501G here and I have done exactly this.
You need to setup the AP as client, and enter all information like SSID and Encrytion while being attached to your lan. The you attach it to your camera and the AP, now working as client, logs into another AP. Works perfectly. _________________ Blue Iris Support Forum

Hi Dwayne thanks for the reply mate
Could you clarify a bit for me? How would I set the TL-WR340G wireless router up as a client? After this I connect it to my lan. Do I need to set IPs etc in the TP to connect to the Netgear in my house? Would I use the same SSID that I have set up in my Netgear router?.
Cheers mate, this seems like something simple to do but I can't seem to get my head round it. Be excellent if I could get this working.
TIA

Well as said I have a TL-WA501G here - I have no idea if your model is capable of behaving so:
you log in to your acesspoint, which you want to setup as client, go to Basic Settings, Wireless, Basic Settings -
there you have radio buttons where you can setup the device you like:
Access Point
Client
Repeater
etc.
You need to check "Client"
You still need to fill the SSID at the top of the page and in the client section.
Save this page and switch to basic Settings/Wireless/security settings and set up security just have setup in your other AP
Remember, the client still needs its own IP adress! Also be sure to have chosen the same channel on client and your AP.
Reboot the device and attach your camera to it. You can check at your others AP if the client logs in (overview, somewhere you have a list of connected clients)
if that worked, try accessing your camera. you acces your camera by its own IP adress, not by the clients IP _________________ Blue Iris Support Forum

Cheers Dwayne, I havent got the client option in the TL-WR340G but i have got a bridge option. I enabled this and added the SSID from the Netgear router. How do I set the ip in the TL-WR340G? Would I have to use an ip from the DHCP pool in the Netgear one?
Would I have to turn off DHCP on the TL-WR340G?
At the moment I have:
dhcp on on the TL-WR340G but only serving the same ip as the camera.
The ip of the TL-WR340G is set to one of the available ips from the dhcp pool in the Netgear router.
SSID etc is the same on both routers.
The Netgear router seems to see the cam and the TL-WR340G as both ips appear in the attatched devices panel on the Netgear router.
The cam works fine when I connect one of the lan ports from the TL-WR340G to the Netgear with cat5 but stops when i dissconect. Also both the TL-WR340G and camera ips dissapear from the Netgears attatched devices panel.
Any ideas? And I hope this makes sense!
Thanks

If you setup one AP as bridge, you have to setup the other as bridge too - a bridge always has 2 sides to enter
However you loose your wlan ability for any other devices with that. _________________ Blue Iris Support Forum

Hi Dwayne after a lot of messing about and getting nowhere I decided to put the idea of 2 routers in the too hard tray and have wired the cam instead - works fine..
Cheers anyway
