|
|
I have a WVC54G camera, it works alright. Has been working alright for the last year & half now. One issue that is always there however is when I am watching the camera via the internet, through Sololink Service, if the camera is active for too long, it stops responding. It only crashes when it's sending video & I'm viewing the feed on the internet. If I watch the video, then go back to the Home Page, then view video a bit later, i can do that all day long & not have an issue. But for some reason after so long, or whatever the case is, it stops responding, and I have to unplug the camera to reset it. The other night I upgraded the firmware on the camera, but the problem happened again, today, after the FW upgrade. I thought maybe it's the router, but I just bought the new WVC200 PTZ camera, and it works so well. It can run the live video all day. It has yet to crash on me (knock on wood). Seems like a really good camera, I'm happy... So I'm stuck, it's frustrating to have it crash, and when it crashes, it obviously takes out the email notification/motion detection. has anyone else encountered issues like this...? Thank you for reading, if anyone can help, I would be really appreciative!

Is your WVC54G connected wirelessly to the router?
When it crashes, does this mean you can't view video over the web or does it actually crash and you need to reset it. _________________ - - - - - - -

Hi, thank you for the reply. One of two things happen, either just the camera crashes, has to be unplugged to be reset, or the other thing is it crashes my LAN partially or in whole. Have to reboot the router. Just a mess. If I just have the camera do security, not view the video live, it works fine for quite some time w/o a reboot. But like I said, the new camera works incredibly well, can view it live all day & not have one issue.

I have never heard of an IP camera crashing an entire network before. Thats very strange. I would think it's your router causing the issue. What kind of router is it? _________________ Administrator

IF you can connect to the camera using cable, try this and see if the problem goes. Being wireless, it is prone to TCP re-transmissions. It is possible that the TCP stack of the camera can't cope with anything but a small burst of trouble. Normally, you would just expect the camera to drop the connection but it may be a poor implimentation?
As Wes said earlier, charhing the whole LAN is very odd. Can I assume you mean everything is connected via the switch portion of the router?
If the problem goes away when wired, I would try to get a better connection by using an one of the external aerials that give some gain and improve the signal/noise ratio. _________________ http://www.ipcctv-security.com for web enabled cctv products and services...

Does the camera have a uP&P facility? If it does, turn it off and try it again.
uP&P can mess about with a router's settings, so that may be the reason why your LAN goes belly up.
In my experience once everything's set up and running turning of uP&P is a good idea.

Try going to custom firmware dd-wrt (google it) get the standard one. Great firmware has not crashed on me since I installed it. The linksys firmware is just sloppy. Would hang my network when I used torrents or did heavy transfering of data. And you will love the wireless features.

I also had the camera hang after 3 hours. By that I mean it would refuse to be accessed via aweb browser it would continue to record pics for about another two before it totally hung.
Gadgetspot was useless for help. But I found a solution.
1. Rest the cam. Then go into it and reset the cam to factory defaults
2. go to http://www.aviptek.com/ and download ver. C61200-WX-2.00.00.6.0728-A0
3. Load this firmware if you have the 1200G camera
NOTE AVIPTEK is the actual manufactorer of the camera.
Then simply re-do your settings. I now reboot the camera out of habit every 3 days. When I cant access the camera I reboot the computer and its there. Seems to have something to do with the XP dns cache. This was the only thing that prevented the cam from simply stopping to work. I also switched the antena in the cam from the aux port to the main. But you may void your warranty doing this. So do so at your discretion. I gained about 15-30%
Don't use gadgetspots firmware. They are idiots. Well the ones in the states anyway. Gadget-spot uk was also helpfull and of course this board.

Try opening a command prompt and doing a netstat -a -o to see what connections are open between the camera and PC? It could be that the socket connections are not closing properly which will show up if there are hundereds of open connections or in a TIME-WAIT state. _________________ http://www.ipcctv-security.com for web enabled cctv products and services...

Do you have a firewall enabled on your router?
Firewalls sometimes see activeX / IPcamera commands as an "Attack" STK attack on a router to be exact. I had this problem for 3 days before I realized what the problem was. I just dissabled any type of protection on that port. Worked fine afterwords...
