Im new to these forums, but would really appreciate some advice for my first security camera. My apartment was broken into last week while I was at class. I'm looking for an affordable camera around $300. I would mainly use it to monitor my small bedroom while i'm away at class. I just want something that I can check during class and feel assured my apartment is safe.

Welcome to the forums and I am sorry to hear about your breakin.

For a reliable camera check out these:
Trendnet 312W
http://www.trendnet.com/products/proddetail.asp?prod=105_TV-IP312W&cat=148

or

Axis 207MW
http://www.axis.com/products/cam_207mw/index.htm

I would recommend installing BlueIris to record on motion triggers and send you email or IM alerts. I would also recommend that you have BlueIris record the events on the host computer. This software is only $50 and has awesome support.

Hope this helps! Let us know how you make out as well.

I am thinking of you can choose those systems which can enable you remote access through mobile phone. Then you can watch your bedroom even during class.

Panasonic and Trendnet both offer basic IP cameras that would fit your budget. Axis also came out with the M1011 series recently, and those cameras are under $200.

You should look at the Linksys WVC80N, great cam and has RTSP viewing and free TZO DDNS for remote access. They are also available at your local PC store in most cases, and if not, the Linksys WVC54GCA (last years model) should be readily avail.

You can see http://www.MyHomeServer.com for all kinds of reviews, tutorials and videos on these cameras.
