I hope this is the proper forum to post this. I have a Panasonic wv-nm100 network camera that is capable of both JPEG and MPEG4. I've been trying to get the MPEG4 Multicast stream working. My camera is sent to multicast on 224.0.0.20 port 5004.

I'm using VLC media player to view the stream but I see nothing. The statistics counter is incrementing but no video is displayed. After reading the Panasonic users guide, it seems that I need to load a plug-in from the original CD (which I don't have of course), in order to view MPEG4 through Internet Explorer.

Should I need this plug-in to view the stream using a mulitcast client such as VLC?

Possibly, but everytime I have setup a camera to view to a player using RTSP I never had to install any plugins. Can you try using another media player? Try Quicktime and see if it works.

for information :

224.0.0.20 is a multicast reserved address, don't send stream on it. Use for example 232.0.0.20.

Take a look at this link : http://www.iana.org/assignments/multicast-addresses, 224.0.0.20 IPAllL2ISs.

I recommand to use a multicast range from 232.0.0.0 to 238.0.0.0. I say that because my own experience about multicast. I'm not an expert !

Do you use Multicast with videosurveillance software ?

See you

Hello,

I really don't have much experience in any of this, but with the help of a friend, I have connected the camera to my pc via an Ethernet cable & can view the output live via http://192.168.1.233/view/viewer_index.shtml?id=2. But now I want to view the output live via VLC, how can I do that? Do I need to download anything, or are there options/settings in VLC that I need to set so that they can detect the ip addy of the cam & stream video?

You assistance is greatly appreciated.
