Greetings to all forum members (happy new year, etc.)

I've been trying unsuccessfully for a month or more to set up a new Samsung SRD-470D DVR so that I can access it from the internet. I know that this is networking 101 but instructions like those found at Portforwarding.com haven't done the trick.

The internal IP address for the DVR is, supposedly, 192.168.1.200, and the TCP port range is 554~557. On this basis I've attempted to forward the DVR in the (Billion 7800N router) like this: [external IP address]:554, but this is obviously not what's required.

I read somewhere that the port needs to be outside the range of the device, but something like 558 doesn't work either.

The Samsung manual was, as usual, no help. It refers to "Web Viewer" which I was unable to access, and I was able to access the cameras via "Smart Viewer 3.0 which came with the DVR, but is not referred to anywhere in the user manual... So should I be able to access the DVR via it's IP address without having to use SmartViewer 3.0 (despite the fact that SmartViewer 3.0 supposedly facilitates internet access to the DVR)?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Cheers,
Geoff (Darwin, Australia)

Hi Geoff,

Similar problem here. I have managed to set NAT in my router so that ports 80 and port 554 are forwarding correctly, according to portforward.com. I can access the viewer from its IP address in the LAN, and it starts up the viewer from the internet, however I only get a black screen, not the live stream from the cameras.

Did you get any further with this? So far I have:

- set the firewall and NAT to forward any external requests on ports 554 and 80 to the DVR's address. This seems to be working
- shutting down the firewall on the network and on the WAN computer
- setting the same safety policies in IE for internet and local network

Any ideas anyone?

Dennis

Hi Dennis,

I can now access the DVR/cameras internally but still unable to access from another computer (at work). I've been getting advice from someone who supplies the Samsung DVR and that advice has included allowing ActiveX controls, lowering security settings, and updating the firmware for the DVR...

That person can access my cameras from wherever he is, but if I enter the DVR's external IP address, I can enter my login details, and when I press OK, I'm asked if I want to allow ActiveX, and when I click OK, nothing happens; no access to DVR. I'm yet to update the firmware on the DVR, though to be honest, I don't see how one person can access the DVR from a remote location with the current firmware version. And at present I'm spending days using memtest to try to identify which of my RAM sticks is causing my PC to hang... It's just one thing after another. I genuinely wish I wasn't interested in computers, or someone was paying me by the hour to do all of this stuff.

Cheers,
Geoff

Hi Geoff,

The guy who installed the cameras for us is having a chat with the importer, he will let us know once he's got an answer.

I already tried lowering the activeX settings in IE to all the lowest settings, but that hasn't solved it. I will check the firmware version next.

Are you getting anything at all from internet? I do get the DVR's page, just not the camera images. My assumption is that my portforward is working, but that the problem comes after that.

Are there people who are able to view their camera's from the net?

Dennis

I can only access the cameras on my local area network (using the internal IP address of the DVR - 192.xxxx.x.xxx; not from a remote location via the internet (on the external IP address), and like you, when I try to login from a remote computer, I can enter username and password, but still can't access the camera. I'd be interested to know what your installer gleans from the importer.

Cheers,
Geoff

Hello Geoff,

If you don't understand the manual that came with the system, then it is better you call the customer care of the manufacturer for help.

Regards,

Right, so I got it working. It turns out I had only forwarded port 554 and not any of the others (80 and 554, 555, 556, 557 both UDP and TCP).

Geoff, things that I can think of:
- your active X settings in IE are too strict
- your firewall and/or port forwarding on your network is not (fully) set up

It sounds to me like traffic on port 80 is being forwarded properly, but not for all the other ports, at least that is what I had.

@georgnox - thanks for the really helpful post...

Hi All,

It's worth noting that Samsung Techwin do offer email and telephone support for just these sort of questions, as well as training sessions on all the DVR, NVR and camera ranges. Lots of people struggle with configuring things like port forwarding and DDNS settings to allow remote access to the units, so it's something we're very able to assist with.

The European tech desk can be contacted at eucctv.help@samsung.com, or on 0800 169 1269. If you're outside of Europe, drop me a PM and I'll put you in touch with the relevant team.

Thanks,
Adam

Make sure you forward all the ports 554 to 557 for both UDP and TCP

So it works !

For french support jeremy.chaloine@samsung.com

I've forward my port like this :

port 80 to port 80 ----> ip adress of SRD-470D (TCP)
port 554 to 557 ----> ip adress of SRD-470D (TCP)
port 8000 to 8159 ---> ip adress of SRD-470D (UDP)

now it's perfect Smile

Hi,
I am having the same problem as well. Just a quick question, can't we forward the ports to the DVR IP in one go from 80 (starting port) to 600 (ending port) to cover the entire range for both TCP/UDP?

TIA
