Through QNAP’s network surveillance capability, the shopping paradise -Dream Mall- with the size of two football fields can now look forward to a future filled with flexibility and scalability. In addition, saved budget in construction funds allow the Group to provide customers a comfortable and secure environment while improving instant customer service.

Challenge
Selected by Forbes Traveler as one of the top ten shopping malls in Asia, Dream Mall covers the size of two American football fields including 800 international brands, movie theatres, amusement parks and 4,500 parking spaces. The Mall needs a monitoring system that can provide stable and powerful back-end management with flexibility for future expansion in both NVR and NAS. Try to imagine, if such a large shopping center was built with traditional CCTV surveillance system, the required length of coaxial cable would be about 87 San Francisco bridges long!

However, QNAP Security surveillance solutions not only saves installation costs, but also provides Full-D1 resolution like DVD video quality and 30 frames per second real-time image. GIGA LAN design also makes data transfer speed guaranteed. A structure like Dream Mall build at such a large scale should not only consider the possibility of future system expansion, but also to take into account the flexibility of back-end and centralized management.

Solution
Dream Mall’s security system placed a total of 600 Panasonic IP and Analogue cameras. Out of which 10% are megapixel cameras and 90% are cameras in VGA resolution to reduce the higher cost for some megapixel monitoring usage. These are installed in distinctive locations such as the main entrance, outdoor parking area, children's playground, and staircases.

The advantage of distributed setup allows QNAP products to be placed in the security room on every floor throughout the initial planning stages. Upon completion, each device is connected back to central management through the network. Thanks to a wider range of integration like emergency button, fire alarm, elevator emergency call button, access control, parking management system, and other similar devices, the operator can be alerted in central management through sounds, pop-up images and even have access control to perform necessary precautions. Basic functions such as detection of internet disconnection, motion, and smart E-Map assist managers to spend the least time in data storage maintenance and the shortest time possible to find any abnormal activities in a wide area. Dream Mall also records a vast number of video data. In order to protect the information, QNAP’s entire product comes with RAID so that operators can choose the appropriate time to remote back-up to online QNAP NAS or FTP servers. Last but not least, the use of Centralized Management Software to connect and manage QNAP CMS allows security staff to arrange the priority of each monitored location on different screens in relation to their importance for easy management.

Feedback
Initially, Dream Mall security team's biggest concern is figuring out how to distribute its budget efficiently within the region and to consider future expansion without demolishing the original structure. Thanks to QNAP's ability to grasp monitoring management with original structure, it maximizes the return on investment of budget allocation, achieves megapixel quality and spends less effort on maintenance.

Mr. Kuo, Project manager at QNAP says, 'The system is expected to upgrade 2000 IP cameras within the next few years. By that time, it will continue to perform customization for specific brand’s demand using Viostor Pro Series. Viostor Pro Series allows on site local display to prevent theft on branded cabinets. For the future, he strongly recommends every brand to use V-Mobile for Mobile viewing to achieve the most efficient resource allocations and consumer protection.
