nc800 looks nice but both its functions and os are flaky beyond belief - constantly crashing my browser and colour is very unstable.

NC800 & L1000 probably both have the same o/s (a linux derivative). I have 7 L1000-L10 cameras which have never caused me any crashing - typically ~15 fps at 640x480 resolution. Colour not wonderful but adequate - as the cams have no IR filter tend to get reddish vegitation. Inbuilt IR LEDs will only do about 10 feet range max - I use extra illuminators for each camera (140 IR LEDs, made in China, look on EBay & get the ones that look just like a standard black floodlight - these LED's glow a very faint red, great for checking if they are all working but would be no good for a covert system). L1000-L10 has a CS mount lens so you can change it for wider angle if you need to - camera comes with a 6mm lens which (I think) gives about 60 degree field of view. If you're into programming at all it's dead easy to use the ActiveX component that comes with the camera to make your own display application but you can also use IE6 with no problems. I had no problems setting the cameras up on our LAN and you can view them over the Internet if you are willing to set up passwords etc to protect them - I haven't. Cameras are for indoor use only (ours are in our stables in a big barn) but I have seen enclosures on EBay that might do for outside use. Cameras come with mains power supply adaptor. My main PC (2.8 GHz) struggles when I have more than 4 cameras displayed but my laptop (1.4 GHz) has no problems displaying all 7 at once (wish I could work that one out!). All camearas are connected to the main house LAN via a 100 Mb/s ethernet link using a single CAT5E cable. I use both hardwired and 54 Mb/s wireless connections in the house and the network is by no means at capacity. Hope that helps you!

Apart from getting the model name wrong ( ) I meant to mention motion detection - I haven't tried it but from what I've read, it is a heavy load on the camera o/s. I haven't tried email either but I haven't any reason to doubt that it will work - it looks easy to set up.

Hello,
I just bought the NC800. We're having trouble getting the live footage to work on the home page. We checked all of our ActiveX settings and they are all enabled and fine. What do you think is wrong?
We can get snapshots but not the live footage on the home page.
Thanks everyone!

Hello Guest,
I am just experiencing the same kind of problems with the NC800 you just described above. Only snapshots, but no live footage.
We (my son, too) are working on it. Did you found any more info on this one? Or any help from someone else?
Using Win98 here. IE 6.0 doesn`t work, Mozilla latest release works faster, but also no live stream.
Take care,
pfbs

Hi have same problems no live feed from NC800 using IE6/Xp. Updated camera firmware to v3.0f on recommendation from Gadspot. Camera works OK with IE6 Win2003 server but not XP/IE6. So think there may be problem in XP as it will work intermittently. There is an issue with Zonealarm even after putting in rules to allow TCP/IP pass through - when connect to camera ZA CPU usage shoots up to 97-98%. Works intemittently without ZA on XP.

for the no live feed issue, in IE choose internet options>Advanced - uncheck "use Http 1.1" - that should solve your issues, It did for me!

I am very new to this IP camera Stuff. I purchased a NC800 Wired version on eBay to monitor my pole barn. To keep an eye on my laptop and other stuff I have out there in the non Winter months. They only problem I have is only the laptop works 100% with the camera.
I am running Windows 2000 Pro and both have all the updates and I can log into the camera from my desktop an even view a snap shot but it will not give me the video its just a frame like I would get if I sent to a web page and the picture was no longer there.
I went to the manufactures web site and read that it could be some DIrect X settings. I brung in my laptop and compared EVERY setting in internet explorer to the laptop and made sure they matched and still it does not work.
It must be something in the computer, it cant be the camera if it works on the laptop?
I went to the Microsoft update hoping I could download the newest Direct X and re install it incase it was damaged on the desktop but for the life of me I could not find it for 2000.
If anyone has any ideas Please pass them along. I can use it like this but its going to drive me nuts every time I use it!
73's and Thank You for any help You can pass along.

The problem is that your explorer for some reason doesn't install the ActiveX correctly. So you need to install it manually (this is basically because Microsoft has tighten it security settings on the Explorer - to make our lifes harder).
Anyway, you first need to download the ActiveX. To do this, set your camera to it's default IP 169.254.0.1, and add a secondary IP 169.254.0.2 to your network card. Then right click on the following link and click "Save As": http://169.254.0.1/view.cab
Save it somewhere on your computer, and open it with WinZip (or something similar which can open CAB files).
Extract the file com1024.dll into your c:\windows\system32 and then run the following command to register it:
regsvr32 com1024.dll
And you're done.
Goodluck,
Adam Ben-Gur.
