|
|
Hi all,
Ive got a DCS-950G in my network. Everything is OK but the DDNS´and the e-mail notification. The camera has a static IP address in the LAN, but the external IP address is changed by my ISP frequently. I can access the camera from the internet when I have refreshed my IP address in www.dyndns.org, but when the external IP addres changes I lose the connection and cannot access the camera from the internet until I refresh again the IP address manually in dyndns.
Ive configured the DDNS service in the camera, using the hostname, username and password, but it doesn´t work.
My modem/router is a belkin F5D7633 and the ports have been opened properly (as far as I know). I forwared port 800 for the camera, as port 80 is busy with something else.
The firmware is 1.06
Also the e-mail notification doesn´t work. I´ve set up all the fields according to the instructions.
I think it might be a network issue. Perhaps I need to forward another port?
I´d really appreciate your help
Cheers

Are you running the DDNS from the camera or router? You will want your router to update the DDNS account with the new IP everytime it reconnects to the Internet.
What kind of email account are you using? I have heard of some free email services like Hotmail, MSN or GMail not working with some IP cameras. _________________ Administrator

I´m running the DDNS service form the camera. What I need is the camera updating my IP address in dyndns.org everytime is changed by my ISP. My ADSL modem/router, a Belkin F5D7633-4, does not support DDNS.
The email account is a POP3 account from Virgin.net and it works fine when I set it up in IPview_SE (the software for the camera), but I need the camera to do the job as I plan to set it up in a network where the computer will be off most of the time. The point is I want to access the camera remotely and get it to send alerts.
Cheers

I have never been able to get an IP camera to update the DDNS account. You need your router to do this. Considering your router does not support DDNS, you could try leaving your computer on and telling it to update your DDNS account with your ISP IP address. Usually DDNS services provide a small application that runs in the background of your PC and updates the IP every 5 minutes. I would suggest doing that.
As for your email problem. Try forwarding port 21 to your camera and see if that fixes your issue. _________________ Administrator

Thanks for the info.
According to the instruction manual of the camera, it should be able to update the dns service, although it does not work. I think the whole point of cameras with DDNS service is to update the IP address if your router does not support it. Otherwise, If I have a router that supports DDNS, why would I need a camera with a DDNS service?.
I´ve tried using software to update the DNS service and it works nicely, but this is not what I need, as my laptop will not be in the network unless I am there.
I´ve asked for technical assistance to D-link (Spain) and they have not replied.
I´ve also tried forwarding port 21 to the camera and it doesn´t work. I have the impression that both problems are related
Thanks very much for your help`anyway

Sorry you weren't able to get it to work. I haven't heard of anyone being able to get it to work before. The only last thing I could suggest is trying DDNS on the camera but hooking it directly to the modem without the router. Have the camera using port 80. This might get it to work. _________________ Administrator
