Two free choices that I know of, Zoneminder is open source, runs on Linux. Also, there's Milestone XProtect Go, runs on Windows. This is a crippled version of their software they offer for free. It's limited to 8 cameras and 5 days recording last time I checked.
I have not used either, please post a review when you had a chance to use one for a while.
There are a few that are low cost, for example, I used BlueIris for a while, worked well, costs $50. _________________ For network camera articles and reviews, visit my blog at http://ipcamnetwork.wordpress.com

I downloaded this and installed the program. Foscam and CISCO/Linksys
are not on the drop down list of supported cameras. I tried the "auto detect"
feature with no luck. I entered the ip address for the 3 cameras I use
along with their opened ports and still it could not find them.
I sent them an email asking if I was using this program correctly
along with the cameras I have not available. I wanted to find
out if a similar camera selection would work for them.

I know that one company called NRJ Soft is making a software that supports both IP and GeoVision cameras and can combine them together in one multihost.
The software is called NRJ Viewer.
Here is a link to it - http://www.nrjsoft.co.uk/downloads.htm

|
|
If you look for a software capable to be used with different "series" Ip-Cams, please visit the page linked below, I have modified several versions of the "IP Camera Super-Client" to enable it to work with multiply chinese OEM Camera Versions with this nice little piece of Software.
Here are the links to the different 'enhanced' versions of the IP Camera Super-Client. It's possible that one program does not work entirely with your Cam's, the other one may will, so, you better download all progs and try them out.
Windows will ask you to allow installation of an unsigned 'active-x' plugin, please allow this in order to make the client work.
http://www.ip-cam.li/IP_Camera_Super_Client_537.zip
http://www.ip-cam.li/IP_Camera_Super_Client_533.zip
http://www.ip-cam.li/IP_Camera_Super_Client_526.zip
http://www.ip-cam.li/IP_Camera_Super_Client_525.zip
http://www.ip-cam.li/IP_Camera_Super_Client_497.zip
http://www.ip-cam.li/IP_Camera_Super_Client_494.zip
http://www.ip-cam.li/IP_Camera_Super_Client_485.zip
http://www.ip-cam.li/IP_Camera_Super_Client_457.zip
http://www.ip-cam.li/IP_Camera_Super_Client_299.zip
http://www.ip-cam.li/IP_Camera_Super_Client_261.zip
No installation is required, just unzip and copy them to a directory and create a Desktop-link to the "SuperIPCam.exe" file. You may install several versions on the same PC, they are of no harm against each other, even when running.
Below two files may also be needed for some versions to make all of it working. At least, according to some uninstall file information found, they are added by some of the progs to the 'c:\windows\system32\' subsection. I have no idea for what reason, anyway...
If you have any problems with any part of the program, take the 3 files from the 'MGMFile_znullrender' Folder (included in the zip-file) and copy them into
c:\windows\system32\
lpng.dll
MGMFile.dll
znullrender.ax
---
The DevFind.exe, enclosed in some Zip's, will not find all different "series" IP-Cams in your Network, so, it's possibly of no real use. I left it in the Software because it belongs there. Also, Progs like 'Backup.exe', 'Watchdog.exe' & 'ZPlayer.exe' e.t.c., are untested at all.
To uninstall, just delete the Program-Folder and use a reliable registry cleaner program to get the rest out of your PC Registry.
I have invested a lot of time to make my 'IP Camera Super-Client' Software capable to work with multiple "series" of IP-Cameras, having, at times, about 20+ different OEM Versions installed on my PC. Since I like the Program so much,I am glad if my Information helps others also.
If you already use an existing IP Camera Super-Client, you may just replace the existing 'DevType.dat' File (possibly also the 'oemopt.dat') with one of the 'DevType.dat' files enclosed in one of the downloaded Versions. Then start your Client and look how it works.
The "oemopt.dat" file is another gizmo, containing some id & information on the OEM Supplier, wich partly (usually the lowest one) lines in the file, prevent the software to accept connection from Competitor-Brands, those using the same "series" spec's. (b.Ex. EasyN/Vstarcam). A rather bad sample of doing honest Business, at least from the standpoint of buyers and users.
In addition to this, "oemopt.dat" contains several links to chinese DDNS-Servers, such as ipcam.so , dns2.ipcam.so, e.t.c. as well as links to Update-Servers. In some of the above programs, I have removed such information in order to keep 'whoever' from possibly gaining access to my cam-traffic or thren beeing advised whenever uses cam online. You never know who's watching you...!
If you are interested to find out more about "oemopt.dat" - content, just take any line-PART, like:
E3FB177FDB3A84C3599EFF630432213B32E49C3CB811
and paste it after the '=' :
DDB18F8269365C=
(meaning: 'website=')
to read out the content, when opening the ABOUT - Section of your Client Software. The lowest visible line above the 'CLOSE' Button with then display the content in unscrambled english. You can so identify the whole content of the "oemopt.dat"
By example, this:
DDB18F8269365C=E3FB177FDB3A84C3599EFF630432213B32E49C3CB811
will the be displayed as:
'IP Camera Super-Client'
Always Remove the '=', if you want to identify the FIRST Line PART like:
CHANGE:
D9FEE8423CE318B6FCE6AC6B96=
TO:
D9FEE8423CE318B6FCE6AC6B96
to make a readable line, like:
DDB18F8269365C=D9FEE8423CE318B6FCE6AC6B96
wich would read out:
'serverwebsite'
etc. etc. etc. ...
Experienced users may compare the different versions and play around, just remember to make a copy of the original first...
Avtually, you could remove almost all content behind lines like:
[F90DE7EBA8AC2B]
DA1B456E57=
CED20E362FC7B23A36=
D9FEE8423CE318B6FCE6AC6B96=
DECAC4922E=
DDB18F8269365C=
D9EEC3C714A32853E4E4A020=
maybe exept for the:
C628FB=CFE4
the program usually still works... Just play around, you cannot break anything!
Good Luck and best regards from Switzerland.
Ernie

Sorry for this long Posting, but I figured, it's better to put it all into one section.
Note: Unregistered 'IP Camera Super-Client' Versions usually function for ONE hour before beeing required to be restarted again in order to work.
The above 2xx.zip- Versions probably require no registration to work, also, they work very well, but they have no audio function, I believe.

To be honest, I don't know yet. Possible 'Vstarcam' or 'EasyN' would be able to assist, because the software seems to come from either one of those two Companies.

Hi.
I downloaded Camera_Super_Client_537.zip and it works with a Foscam clone camera, but I can't get my other cameras working. I have TrendNet TV-IP201 and this software can't see the camera, even when I enter IP address and port.
Can DevType.dat be modified to work with TrendNet TV-IP201?

this Camera uses, to my limited knowledge, AJAX-XML programmming technique to interact with the client broser. For this reason, one requires a browser instead of a client software to view this type of cam.

I also have bought one of those (by mistake), just to find out about this.

The Camera mentioned uses a Protocol not 'understud' by 'IP Camera Super-Client' Software.
