Greetings. I am a live stage producer for bands and corporate gigs. Right now I use standard video cameras (sometimes broadcast quality sometimes handhelds depending on budget) into a video switcher then into a custom built computer with video capture, which I then broadcast on a screen behind the band/performer using an LCD projector and special effects software for video.

I would love to get an IP camera setup which will allow me to control the cameras from a central video station, capture the video for post-production, and broadcast the video streams thru the lcd projector.

In my beginning research it seems that most of these IP cameras are used for security. Questions:

Are there IP cameras of quality enough to use for my purpose? Usually I'm doing DVDs at 720X480 and syncing audio to this?

Can you run numerous cameras (three or four) and monitor the outputs of the cameras simultaneously? Then switch which one is live?

Are there cameras that will allow control of angle, zoom, focus, etc?

Any advice, links, input would be most appreciated.

It is possible. You would want a camera that has a good quality. Would frame rate be an issue? Would you need 30fps? Or would 10 do?

Reason I ask, is you can get megapixel IP cameras that have great quality but low frame rate. For those types of cameras checkout IQINVISION, ARECONT or Mobotix.

As for non MegaPixel cameras, checkout AXIS, ACTi and 4XEM's Enterprise line of cameras. All those have high quality - but with a high price :S

Frame rate is important. 29.97 would be best. I'll check out the cameras you've posted.

Thanks.

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend a MegaPixel camera then. You can get cameras that run at 720X480 @ 30 fps.

One of the Canon demos actually worked so I inqired...to pricey for me though. Dobbins is the sales manager.

Wow - it looks nice, but what a price. I'll take 10! - ya right.............

Been looking at above cameras. The price on these has to be coming down as more competition enters the market. I wish I could get my hands on a couple of these models to try them out and see if quality = price = stability = ease of use.

I found a company in Ottawa that carries some of these. Time for a visit.

Thanks to all posters. Been a big help.

Marcomm Fibre Optics Inc in Ottawa sell Axis stuff.
Graybar sells ACTi.

There was another one, but I can't find it right now - but it's not Arecont.
