Set up my linksys wvc54g wirelessly on my home network easily enough but I cannot get it to work over the internet using the sololink ddns service. Can anyone suggest an alternative?

Why not just assign the camera a static IP through the router?

Are you saying you have never managed to get back in from the internet via the router or that it's not reliable enough? I ask because I have had several problems with Linksys routers and dynamic address changes.
Part of the problem could well be the lag between the IP address change and your DDNS provider catching up. One would expect though that this would occurr infrequently if the stay alive facility of the router kept the connection up. You should check this out. My problem was that the address insisted on changing anyway and I still dont have a satisfactory answer for that?
I did read somewhere about some routers not conforming to the DDNS intended specification. It may be worth you checking this out after the keep-alive function in the router. _________________ http://www.ipcctv-security.com for web enabled cctv products and services...

My ISP is DHCP so have to use a third party DDNS I am afraid it is all a bit over my head I think I have done every thing all right like port forwarding. or opening ports I have a speedtouch 716 modem/router I have enabled dynamic DNS and I don't know what else to try. Thanks for your interest, if anyone knows of solution it will be appreciated

Who is your ISP? Most of the time the MAC push will pull the same IP for 365 days. I have DHCP comcast, but only renew 1 time a year..

ICUsecurity, if you mean me, I've seen this with both BTclick and I think the other one was Tiscali. On the otherhand, like you I've also seen IP addresses sticking for much longer although not a full year. _________________ http://www.ipcctv-security.com for web enabled cctv products and services...

It is usually 5-10$ for a static IP... I do not know how much virgin net charges.

Some ISPs in the UK do not offer static ISPs so be prepared for that. You may need to switch. _________________ http://www.ipcctv-security.com for web enabled cctv products and services...

You can always use DynDNS.com. Their DDNS service is free and works pretty good. _________________ Administrator

port request and pings are different. Most routers block pings, so tracerouts will not work.
Ill look into it further later, have a client to go impress.. _________________ For Sale

Thats very kind of you. I am at a loss, I thought all you have to do was set up something like dyndns and open up the port 80 that the camera uses and thats it. Don't know what to do next.
