|
|
After several months of migrating to Windows7 64-bit, I discovered early on that my recording/monitoring software in NOT fully Windows 7 64-bit compatible and it's time to move on as I feel support does not fully understand the problems I brought to them for resolution (the problems I encountered on W7 64-bit are work well on XP).
I've been looking around and listening here over time for information on recording and monitoring software. I am NOT looking for the top of the line software, but I will not compromise and buy flakey and cheesy software either.
Question: Has anyone have any pros and/or cons on i-Catcher Console? Any and all information is appreciated. I just filled out their online form for a trial, but as with all busineses, they will always rate their own software as the best available and that is why i am asking for pros and/or cons form users.
The following is what I will run with i-Catcher:
- 11 to 15 cameras, all Axis of various models and one Panasonic
- Windows 7 64-bit (*** VERY IMPORTANT THAT i-Catcher is 100% 64-BIT COMPATIBLE. Their site only lists Windows 7 w/o indicating 32-bit or 64-bit).
- PC is an Intel Core i7 - 2600k 3.4 Ghz, 8gb RAM
- 10 tb disk (may be more, I lost count as I am always buying more and bigger)
Thanks in advance,
John

Hi John,
iCatcher Console will run on 64bit operating systems without problems. Most the servers we now specify are 64bit.
Whilst iCatcher isn't natively 64bit, we've had no reported issues.
I hope this helps!
Kind regards,

iCatcher, many thanks for your reply. This past weekend I downloaded iCatcher Console and applied the trial license key on my Windows 7 32 bit test PC. I was able to load all my cameras with the exception of my 2 AXIS P1346 Network Cameras. Niether seemed to work, but yet the IP, port and camera selection was correctly used while configuring the "new camera". For some reason, it would not connect. To ensure the cameras were running, I was able to log into the camera via my browser using the same PC. I have many other models of AXIS and a Panasonic which loaded with no problems.
If you or I can resolve the problem stated above, I will load iCatcher on my Windows 7 64 bit PC, stop the current software that I use for monitoring and recording, and "soak test" iCatcher for several days.
One more question: Does h.264 use more CPU than MJPEG when using iCatcher for monitoring and recording? My test W7 PC is much smaller (intel 2 core 2.14 GHz) than my larger Intel i7 2600k PC. I loaded 9 megapixal cameras on the test PC using h.264 configuration and I'm at 100% CPU. This may not be a problem once I load iCatcher on the i7 2600k PC, but was just wondering.
Thanks in advance,
John

Have you tried BlueIris, it worked with all my cameras and if one didn't, Ken fixed it for me. _________________ For network camera articles and reviews, visit my blog at http://ipcamnetwork.wordpress.com

I experienced some odd problems and it did not have all the features I needed. I'm sure it has changed since those days, but for now I am evaluating iCatcher which seems to have what I want and then some providing I can get my P1346's running on iCatcher.

Hi John,
My apologies for the late reply, I don't browse the forums very often.
Best to email our support( support at icodedotcodot uk. )
The P1346 is fully supported, so its a stange one that it doesn't connect easily like the others. You'll find our H.264 support very efficient, I can run 16 megapixel Axis cameras on a quad core machine and only use 20% CPU.
Kind regards,

Thanks! I wanted to let you know that I was able to configured i-Catcher with my P1346 cameras after my last message. The problem was "operator error" (my fault). By mistake I selected P1347 instead of P1346 from the list in i-Catcher. Although both camera models are simular, I guess i-Catcher thought differently and did not connect.
I do have tow other issues which may be minor so I will email your support as you suggested.
Thanks,
John
p.s. - i got your email too.
