Guys
Please please help me as I;m not very good with computer stuff and this port forwarding.
I have a AVTech AVN80X IP camera and a O2 Wireless Box II.
The O2 router seems to be really rubbish as it's not very flexible in letting me manually define the port forwarding. The instructions on the O2 site are so inaccurate as the features it described on the website cant actually changed.
So, I'm stuck with enabling UPnP on the router but when I press the button on the Camera site to assign the external port number, it only works sometimes. Most of the times, it just tells me "Port Forwarding failed".
Is this all because of the dodgy O2 router? Do I have to buy another router? Has anyone out there got yheir AVTech IP Camera to work well with any particular router on an O2 network?
I have previously used a DLINK router before with the camera at another house and manually set up the port forwarding numbers and it worked well.
Can anyone give any advice at all?
thanks alot
S

I never got uPnP working with any camera, any router, so maybe it's hit or miss.
I have used my AVN80X with a Linksys WRT54 running DD-WRT firmware attached to a cable modem. I also used it with a stock Netgear DSL Router. Both worked fine, both were manually configured for port forwarding.
One thing people do inadvertently is use their cable/dsl modem that they were provided with and it turns out that it's a router too and the put another router over it for WiFi and more ports and that's impossible to port forward. You have to disable one of the routers to make one the definitive router, not so easy for most. Also, you can't tell by looking at as I had the same model DSL modem from Verizon that had no router capabilities and one from AT&T (different location) that was a single port router and I had to disable the router capabilities to make it work with my router.
Also, DD-WRT is awesome firmware for routers. If you search on ebay for DD-WRT, you'll see many for sale. It has all the features you'll ever need and when you by a different router, you don't have to re-learn a new vendor's firmware. _________________ For network camera articles and reviews, visit my blog at http://ipcamnetwork.wordpress.com

Thanks alot for the info. That was very useful.
Having checked with various people, I decided on a Netgear N300 modem router which I knew would definitely work with the O2 Broadband provider. Finally managed to switch of upnp rubbish and the cameras finally work once more with manual port forwarding.
