|
|
Hello all,
I recently Installed a 10mp arecont camera on my warehouse property for a whide shot of the parking lot. My goal is one camera for the entire parking lot.
The camera is good but 10mp is just not enough for my needs. I am wonderding if anyone knows of a higher megapixel network camera, something around 12 mp or up , if that even exists.
Thanks

Actually that 10MP Arecont is not that good, worse than their 5MP in resolution. Sure more pixels but pixels don't always equate to resolution.
If you want true resolution from a quality camera and have the dough to back up your needs, check out Avigilon, they have quality cameras from as little as 8MP up to 29MP using a full frame 35mm sensor. _________________ For network camera articles and reviews, visit my blog at http://ipcamnetwork.wordpress.com

hmmm...5mp sharper then 10mp
Here is a picture of the 10mp Arecont with the recommended lens from Arecont .Do you see the door all the way at the end near the drive-through? I want to be able to digitally zoom in to that door and see a clear face. Any ideas? I was thinking of splitting up the scene to 4 10mp Arecont cameras (zooming in each one to see a portion of the current image) but that seems a little extreme and it would look strange to see four cameras facing in one direction. Any Ideas?

Speaking of the Avigilon 29mp HD Pro, I can't find any prices in the internet. I know the lens is purchased seperately and will cost a small fortune too.
FWIW - When I did a search on Avigilon IP network camera in amazon.com, the hit I got was Linksys ip network camera for $59.00. That was my big laugh of the day.

With Avigilon, if you have have to ask the price, you can't afford it. Just
hand them our credit card, they'll take care of the rest. But consider that
one 29MP may replace 4 Arecont 10MP and probably have better
image quality. BTW, it's about $10K but don't tell anyone I told you, they
like to look at your face when they tell you, SURPRISE, haha.
Arecont does make a 20MP, but did you ever wonder why the Arecont
10MP camera is cheaper than their equivalent 5MP camera? Arecont
is one camera I couldn't wait to get rid of, dumped it on ebay after 2
weeks. They make wild claims on resolution but don't have the image
quality to back them up. Their night vision leaves a lot to be desired as
they achieve it with the longest exposure times in the business, like
2 seconds, great for still shots but you have to hope a snail doesn't enter
the picture and blur it all up.
Have you considered a 2MP PTZ camera (again, not as cheap as 4
10MP Areconts). It could zoom in on the spots you want on a fixed patrol
and then have motion tracking to follow the perp. Check my blog on the
1MP Axis PTZ camera that Johnny has, it can zoom in a block away and
you can count the hairs in someone's nose. _________________ For network camera articles and reviews, visit my blog at http://ipcamnetwork.wordpress.com

That's what a PTZ is designed to do, the motors should last years. _________________ For network camera articles and reviews, visit my blog at http://ipcamnetwork.wordpress.com

It's fair to say Uncle Sam probably has better, but he generally doesn't;t say much about such things.
IIRC, Kodak made the 39 MP sensor.

Over the past day, I viewed youtube videos of their 16 and 29 mp cameras as well as some of their case studies. Obviously these are very professional and serious cameras. It makes Axis look like toys (well almost).
Assuming the 29mp camera costs about $10,000 plus lens, you won't see these cameras in use at home. I know for fact branch banks in my area don't use anything close to these cameras. I have a property next to a bank and when it was robbed at gun point last year, the cops and FBI came to me to see my camera video footage and they outright told me the bank's security camera system was useless low res and poor quality. You won't see these cameras in the WallMart parking lot either. So, my question: aside from their case studies, who would use or require such powerful cameras for ordinary security applications?

Sure, but when someone with a 10MP cameras says they want something
more, this is the next step as not too many players are in this space. _________________ For network camera articles and reviews, visit my blog at http://ipcamnetwork.wordpress.com

http://avigilon.com/products/documents/casestudies/ - about three dozen Avigilon users listed there (not all running the Pro series cameras, mind you). There's cities, universities, arenas, malls...

The Avigilon Pro series is designed for applications where you need to record the entire seen with the ability to drill in with detail after the fact, Stadiums, parking lots, airports.... They are also a good fit if you have multiple operators because unlike PTZ cameras more then one operator can control and zoom a camera at the same time. Lastly the PRO cameras don't have any moving parts like PTZ cameras so their is less parks to break down.
They are not cheap cameras but you need to look at them like tools and sometimes they are the best tool for the job.
FYI viewing videos of the PRO cameras on youtube does not do them justice. Youtube is limited to 2MP. _________________ www.thewireguys.tv
