If you are interested in the RayTec RayMax illuminator, let me know, my supplier happens to have a sale on the RM50 30, but only has 10 left. See the link below, if it works for you, it would be about half that price. Axis illuminators are RayTec. This illuminator can be power by PoE which is nice. They also have specials on Mobotix going on now. I was thinking of picking up the illuminator myself for such a low price.

Thanks for all your advice so far!

I met with my client this evening and it sounds like they were budgeting for Mobotix-type prices, so it looks like that may become the camera of choice.

Couple of questions.... Do you have preferred vendor for Mobotix (PM if you prefer)?

Also, have you tested this with audio? Do you happen to know if it's 2-way on a Mac or iOS device?

Cheers,
Stephen

Ask Mobotix support. I can't even get my Axis or AVTech cameras to do audio over my Mac so I have Mac issues. I buy from a wholesale distributor. I'm don't really resell to the public but if it's something I can help with, let me know, I can work something out. My distributor mostly sells most major brands, but sometimes they have specials, that's why I mentioned the Raytec illuminator and the D14 are two products they sent me a flyer on but quantity is limited, but it's not something I can give a price and then you call me in 2 weeks after the deal is over and expect that price.

Hi buellwinkle,

Thanks again! I did some pretty extensive research last night and it appears that the Mobotix doesn't do audio streaming to the iPhone or the Mac. It's IE only. Supposedly a Mobotix app is in the works, but by the looks of things it's been "in the works" for over a year and people are growing restless. The SIP functionality looks soooo cool on the Mobotix. I would love to have one to play with for my personal use, but I don't think it's going to be a fit for their needs.

I think I'm falling back to the Axis at this point. I can confirm that my cheapee M-1031W can do audio on both the Mac and on the iPhone. (Granted, it's choppy and not that great, but it works.)

With all this said, a few more questions: given that they're not afraid to spend a bit more (but I don't want them to if they don't have to), is there an Axis you like that fits the bill that's nicer than the 1344. Is it worth it to spring for the 1346 or 47?

Any recommended illuminator model number? For a small horse stall, I don't think anything huge is needed.

cheers and thanks!
Stephen

That may be old information because in the past, they only had mjpeg or their own compression and the only way to get audio period was with their own compression BUT their newest camera, the D14 has h.264 codec which supports audio and Mac's support h.264 natively through Quicktime. Ask their support, it's us-support@mobotix.com, Tell them you have a pre-sales question. I would ask my distributor but he'll just guess, better to get the answer from the people that have to support you if you have trouble making it work.
