I am observing a new IP surveillance solution provider-Plustek from many aspects, here’s my survey and it would be really appreciated if you can give us some ideas or advices.

Plustek started their business imaging product/scanner manufacturer, they formed a dedicated team for security products starting from a few years ago, focus manufacturing NVR systems. They don’t provide “pure” software solution (means that the user only purchase software and license then install in a PC to run as a surveillance system).

Main products are:
NVR standalone(Linux-based)
Video server
Hybrid standalone

Which I think would be advantages:
1.anti-vibration, which is very important for the transportation related project, this feature also helped Plustek to raise the chance to win certain specific projects.
2.They provide free bundle video management software “Multimanager” to combine all products together
3.“Hybrid” solution provides more flexibility to me, I can keep analog cameras while adding megapixel cams, in one system.
4.video server helped existing analog system to connect with IP-based application.

1.scalability, their product supports 8 channel video input at most, not sure if they have the ability to handle project with hundreds of cameras. In comparison with the solution that can support up to 32 or 64 cameras per server, the wiring cost, networking cost and the complexity of installation are increased.
2.compatibility, Plustek is basically open-platform, but if you check on their camera support list, there aren’t yet many cameras being supported.
3.“video analysis” They only provide basic functions such as motion detection, however, more and more projects require advanced video analysis features, for this point, Plustek may lose some opportunities, but I heard that it’s possible for them to do integration as well as development when certain projects require specific features. (not confirmed)

The information on their website is not well completed, some product specifications are still missing, I tried to compare the difference between their nDVR and video server, but can’t find the answer due to not much info..
