Don't know how you can compare the two. The Panny is a VGA camera, or about 1/4th the resolution of the ACTi. The Panny is a day only camera, will only work with visible light, no IR light, the ACTi has a day/night filter, can be used at night with IR light. I have a similar Panny, the pan/tilt is noisy and I rarely use it that way. Just put a nice higher resolution camera in the corner and cover the entire room, why mess with pan/tilt (Panny has no optical zoom).

Step up to the ACTi ACM-3511 that's what I use indoors, has IR illuminators and a nice varifocal lens.

Price matters. The ACTi 3511 I use but it is $100 more than the 3401

Just throwing out an option. If you have adquate light, then no need for the built in illuminators, at least the acm-3401 allows you to use IR lights in the future if you go that route.

Also consider the TCM-1111, it's an outdoor bullet, about $300, day/night, 1.3MP and built in illuminators and fixed lens. Can be used indoors, just a thought.

Another choice, if IR lighting is never needed as the case would be with Panasonic and day camera is OK, consider the TCM-4511 cube, under $200, 1.3MP and interchangeble c-mount lens. The step up would be the TCM-4201 that adds mic/speaker and PIR motion detector.

I will pitch the box, but people tend to like how the dome looks (and some are willing to pay).

ACTi has some models that are close though. What is the difference between:

acm-3401 vs tcm-3111 - POE/DC vs POE?

The ACM-3401 is end of life, ACTi will no longer sell in a month or so. The TCM-3111 is it's direct replacement. As for PoE/DC, ACTi has moved away from providing 12V power supplies and is just doing PoE.

Domes do look more discrete, can't blame you there.

Unless you are a dealer, careful shopping on the internet as some sell gray market camera that ACTi in the U.S. will not warranty or support. Like Surveillent, Amazon, PCRush. B&H would be a legit dealer.

Most of them are 3 years except for the lower end like the cubes have one year. Check that for the specific model you want. I have an ACM-1231 that's about 4 years old, works great, no issues.
