Hello,

I would like some help in selecting an wireless internet camera to use as a "door" camera for my house so I can identify people that have visited me and so on.

I have been looking at the DCS-950G but Im a bit sceptical about it after reading the reviews on this site.

I need the camera to be wireless, support WPA, have decent lowlight performance , support motion detection and I have a budget at around $100-$150, it will be mounted outside but protected from rain/snow.

Any help appriciated!

You can try the 4XEM WL30 however it is not the greatest in low light. It is in your price range however. You can also try D-Link's DCS-G900.

Will you be placing it outside without an enclosure?

why do you need wireless???

If you are just going to be within your house range, why not just go with a wired solution, better quality and its always on unless your router goes down. the dcs-950g is an okay camera, the software i am having problems with, you can view my dcs-950 at http://riversbendph.dyndns.org:81 if you care to. there will probably not be any activity since it is inside my barn.

If you absolutely need wireless, invest the extra bucks and get a good quality Axis or something that has PTZ.

It will be in some sort of enclosure protecting it from water/cold wheater and so on.

The reason I want wireless is so that I don't have to drill holes in my house!

Thanx for the suggestions so far!

That's good you are using an enclosure. If you are going wireless, you might have trouble with getting the wireless antenna inside the enclosure. You might have to attach it on the side. This is due to the size of the antenna and strength of signal. If your wireless signal is low, it might not be able to penetrate the enclosure.

That is probably not going to be a problem, my wlan router is fairly close (10 meters perhaps) and my house is mainly wood so the path loss shouldn't be that great, I can actually pickup a couple of my neighbours WLAN's aswell.

I will probably build the enclosure with a wooden frame also.

Im leening towards the dlink dcs-g900 but Im having trouble finding a retailer for that perticular camera in Sweden.

Yeah I don't know of any resellers in Sweden. I believe www.networkwebcams.com is based in the UK. You can try checking out their site.

I'd say impossible for $150, generally the added WiFi ability adds $100 to a camera.
