|
|
Hello everyone,
I'm new to the field of IP cameras. Happened to surf onto your site while doing some research for my company. Must say it is really impressive with lots of useful information and everything is so organised. Furthermore there is even a comparison chart for us to use. Many thanks to those who maintain this website. Good job!
Anyways, I'm helping my company do some research on what IP cameras to buy so could you all just name me the TOP 5 IP Camera Manufacturers in your own opinion. All replies are greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Thanks for the commendations
As for the top 5 manufacturers....thats a hard question to answer. Most manufacturers excel in separate fields.
Axis is the leader in the group. They offer high quality cameras and have been around the longest. Their prices are a bit higher than most as you are paying for the branding. Their cameras also do no include recording software so that is an additional accessory you will need to budget for.
If you are looking for very high quality images and don't care so much for 30fps videos, IQInvision, Mobotix and Arecont are great manufacturers of Megapixel IP cameras.
If you are on a budget, D-Link and 4XEM both offer low priced solutions including free bundled software.
Hope that helps _________________ Administrator

Don't forget Sony
Actually, I don't have a very well rounded opinion. I have experience with exactly one PTZ network camera: mine. And it is a Sony, and it is REALLY nice.

Sony's are good and Canons too. You are jumping up in price with those as well because you are once again paying for branding. They are good quality cameras though _________________ Administrator

How much more would you guess the Sony and Canon brands cost you?
I think a good example for purposes of comparison would be the Canon VB-C50 and the Axis 213. Same camera, same price at most places.
It could be argued, however, that Axis is a name brand as well, if not the name brand in surveillance cameras of any type.

I bet the Sony and Canon have the same price range as AXIS. Like Todd said, AXIS does have the name brand in IP surveillance. I would go with them over Sony and Canon as they specialize in IP products whereas Canon and Sony are all over the place _________________ Administrator

I agree. Each manufacturure specialises in particular markets. While the big companies have the name (and this is reflected in the price) the small ones may be more focused on specific niches. _________________ www.y-cam.com

As "Administrator" said, different manufacturers have strengths in different areas. Most of the big analogue CCTV companies have a reasonable IP or hybrid line up (Sony, Panasonic, Bosch, JVC, etc) and while you may pay a premium for the brand you can be assured that they pay a premium on R&D to endure thatthe brand reputation isn;t tarnished by inferior products!
Then you have the IP only players named above, again I would agree Axis probably have the market share and again they have build a reputation for quality so you can expect top pay a little more.

Don't forget about support and warranty. Axis is very good at this. You have a problem with a Axis product it's a 1 day turn around time. Vivotek has a 4 to 6 week turn around time. And that is why I sell Axis products.

Indeed, Sony have followed in the heels of Axis with a three year advance replacement warranty. I'd like to see the likes of Vivotek or Acti follow suit. I've been waiting 2 months for a simple email reply from Acti, their loss at the end of the day...

What do you mean by top 5 as clearly the top 5 in sales would be the companies specializing in low budget cameras like D-Link, and not high end surveilence cameras. Heck, there are probably a bunch of companies in Taiwan that outsell Axis.

Axis has sold over 1 million cameras. I like to try out any ip cameras I can to see if I can find a better product at a better price, and have always come back to Axis. I can't find a product that has a better image quality, features, and warranty then the Axis product line.
My next contestant is Avigilon. Looks like they have a great product just waiting till they add IR filters in the next couple of weeks before i order one.
