|
|
I am considering Trendnet vs Axis software for my home video surveilance- thoughts on pros and cons of each? I need roughly 10 cameras on a combination of indoor and out, and I need audio and video.
Also what are the advantages, if any, of buying the cameras from the same manufacturer as the software?
thanks ef

Either way you go regarding the hardware I say ditch the software and purchse BlueIris. For $50 you cant go wrong. I currently use it with 2 Trendnet and one Panasonic camera and have had great results.

Trendnet does not make network cameras. What trendnet does is like what dlink and most other network camera re-branders do, they outsource not just manufacturing but also design, to chinese (mainland/red and taiwan) OEMs. When you say "trendnet", you could mean any of a dozen or more different original equipment manufacturers, available for sale by dozens of other re-branders, all only slightly different from each other, if at all. Axis hardware is made in sweden, and it's an axis design and product, sharing much in common with other axis gear. A comparable company would be Vivotek (taiwan, or 福爾摩沙). Unlike axis, though, vivo is the OEM of dozens of netcam re-branders. There are probably a few trendnet cameras made by vivo. Other re-branders of vivo are 4xem, levelone, dlink, ... The list could go on an arm's length if you looked deeper.
P.S. My Toshiba has an Axis processor in it. Toshiba doesn't make the camera though; Topview does. And yup, that's china.
P.P.S. As for software, try them out. None will do everything you want (unless you do it yourself), so you have to try them for yourself. _________________ 40th Floor - Software @ http://40th.com/

Good point made by 40thfloor. Like most electronics the Trendnet are rebranded. The Axis are top of the line IP stuff. I have had great luck with my Trendnet TV-IP301W and my TV-IP422W though.
