|

Hi
My house has been constantly under attack by vandals for a good few years, and I've finally decided enough is enough and that I'm going to catch the little sods.
So I bought a Y-Cam Knight, with the intentions that if it works, I'll buy more and dot them around the outside of my house. I got it, and the external casing yesterday, and set it up in the front window without any casing to start with.
Under normal daylight conditions it worked fine, I got brilliant picture quality, and I really liked the features.
When night fell, and the IR LEDs came on, they just reflected off the window, making the camera useless. So I decided to put it in it housing, ready for today, when I would fit it to a wall. Except, after fitting the camera, I took it outside just to see what the picture quality was like.
I had the same problem, the IR LEDs reflect off the glass in the front of the enclosure.
So I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to fix this.
Thanks

I've had the same problem, that's why I refuse to buy any cameras with IR emitters on the camera. To make this work, you you have isolate the lens from the IR leds. These sort of cameras were never intended to be outdoor cameras. I would imagine that you can either disable the IR emmitters (sort of of waste for outdoors anyway, won't give you the distance you probably need) or you can devise a gasket between the glass and lens that isolates the IR led's from the lens.

After I wrote this original post, I did some more googling and found the answer.
The Y-cam shell has a removed plastic lense at the front, you simply remove the lense and ensure that the lense from the camera is pushed right up to the rubber seal.
After doing this, the problem was fixed. This information is in the instruction manual, but it isn't very clear
But thanks for the help

How is it working out for you, the night shots? Do you have some images to share?
