Hi everyone,

My company is using 3 Sony network cameras to track warehouse inventory, and we are planning to multicast them using VLC Server so we can embed the player on our website to allow other authenticated users to view, zoom in, out, and tilt the camera as wish.

We already setup multicast address and open neccessary ports for multicasting purpose, however we can't open those camera with VLC player. I'm very new to VLC and have limited knowledge about networking. My questions are, is it possible for VLC to host Sony network camera? what are the steps to setup a multicast server with VLC to host Sony network camera? and how to embed the VLC to a website?

The cameras we are using are: Sony Network Camera SNC-RX550 http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/mkt-government/mkt-governmentvideoproduction/product-SNCRX550N/B/

Thank you very much for your help.

Intelliwave,

From what I could find out about this it may be a combination of factors. It could very well be the firmware version that is giving you issues. I have heard that you may need to upgrade the firmware or may need in revert back to an earlier firmware version. It could also be the version of VLC you are using. Here's what I info I did find with regards to configuration:

Using VLC media player version 1.0.0, select "Open Network Stream..." from the "Media" pulldown menu Select "RTSP" from the 'Protocol' pull-down menu, and enter the following address:
192.168.0.100/media/video0
(When the camera is set to operate using dual codec, "video0" represents the 'Priority' codec and "video1" represents the 'Secondary' codec)

Not sure if this will help any but thoght I would try.
