We are on 7 acres. The property is long and narrow. We have a rental house near the street with some shop buildings behind that. Then 400 feet behind that is our house.
I want to place one or two cameras near the rental and 1 or two near the shop and finally one or two near the main house.
Physically hooking these cameras up is a problem even for power, much less data. I was thinking wireless but nowhere can I find range for these wireless cameras.
At the main house I have highspeed dsl. But I need to get the signal from the shop to the house.
Oh and of course im limited some by budget.

any suggestions?

Thanks

I would try a big omni-directional wireless antenna.

I agree, at the location where your dsl is place an Omni-Directional antenna. Also if the signal is still not strong enough consider directional antennas back to the Omni.

Hi,,,
how much do you want to invest in to it, how important is it...

My setup includes 2 BH Motorola Canopy with range about 1.5km (point to point). This is most likely an overkill for you.

If you are in to IT/networking you could get 2-3 wireless routers with omni-directional wireless antenna places then around property.. 200-400 meters a part would do.. But you will need POE adapter for this setup.. if you got old Wifi AP/Routers then this can be el-cheepo setup..

Other alternative is to use these... They have great range, and simple to setup..
Ubiquiti NanoStation5, they cost almost as good Omni antenna, but they got everything inside, and great range..

consaka,
We are covering 1-2 acres at one of our job sites and have one run of about 5 football fields of distance (~1500') between a guard shack camera and an access point on our job trailer that works pretty well. The other cameras are within 200'-400' of the access point.
After shopping around and trying quite a few wireless outside cameras. we came to a conclusion that almost all of these type of cameras have poor wireless quality. But, we found these camera systems by "Wireless Outdoor Cam" to have exceptional wireless power and functionality. They use professional hardware that can supposeably span a distance of 50km with the right directional antennas.
But be careful of line-of-site obsticals. especailly trees. The 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz do not work well with trees in the way. I believe the water in the trees create some sort of passive frequency barrier to the higher frequencies. We also had a couple of 900MHz camera systems customized by these guys to penetrate thru a wooded lot for us. They were a bit more in price but cheaper than paying someone dedicated to watching the construction site.

We use large 12db Omni antennas and large 24db directional panels for most of our wireless camera systems even if they are close in proximity to the access point. It helps insure that interference from other wireless sytems and job equipment don't cause a problem.

And like, sadik007, we also use Ubiquiti, the PowerStation 2 by www.ubnt.com for a directional access point where we are only using one camera or need the longer distances.
