I have an Axis M1031 w I just installed at home.
We have a remote control aircraft field for model planes behind the house, and the purpose was to let those that come from a distance, see the windsock, and know what conditions are like before they head out.

Can see the camera fine on the local network, at the link below.

Axis has a dynamic DNS service that found it fine, and generated the link.

The Netgear wnd 3700 router has port forwarding set from the camera ip to port 80. However the link will not work of the home network.

I ran the port forward.com port check utility, and it tells me the port is not accesible. Yet I cannot see why.

Any suggestions?

First, I need to know where the Camera is connected?...what ports are you using in the router?...what is your local address? example: 192.168.1.100..etc.
Are you using Windows Vista?
===========================
try and type your camera's address locally: 192.168.1.100:80 (this is just an example)
as you can see the port number is at the end
if you see the camera locally, then go ahead and find your PUBLIC IP address
go to: www.geobytes.com
and take a look at your PUBLIC IP address...should be something like:
175.1.24.70...(this is just an example)
write it down
Go ahead and type your PUBLIC IP address in your browser plus your PORT NUMBER:
175.1.24.70:80
Now you should see your camera
call a friend with Internet and tell him to type the same address:port
he should see your camera too
Now is time to set the DNS
go to www.dyndns.com
and subscribe for a free account, follow the instructions in there.
Let me know if you are still having trouble
Wink

I am using win7.
My IP is 174.112.24.165.
I have tried using both my wired and wireless network on my Netgear wnd3700

Internally I use a fixed IP in the camera http://192.168.1.103:8004/ and this works internally, as did port 80, before axis suggested I change it to 8004.
I changed the camera to 8004, and the port forwarding in the router to 8004.

However the Axis automatic DNS service seems to assume port 80.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

To do the external check, I just use my Iphone, on the 3G network.

If I turn on wifi (internal) I see the cam. If I turn off wifi and go on 3g I cannot.

The router has pretty good security so I am wondering if it has something to do with that.

The DNS service and any other DDNS service is always going to assume port 80. That is in the design of DNS servers... give it a host name... it gives you an IP address. Just have to put :<port> and he should rock.

Ok..
Do not use the DNS service from Axis, is pretty confusing.
Go to:
www.dyndns.com
open a free account in there, and follow the instructions...you should get it ready in 10 minutes!!..is fast and easy.
And by the way, I just went to see your camera:
174.112.24.165:8004
and is working..!...didn't see the image, is taking too long ..but the menu is in there.

Ya I agree with Ozark. Use DynDNS.org and input the settings into your router rather than having your camera do ddns.
