|
|
I just installed a Foscam model FI8908W and can not send an email notification of an alarm event.
The camera works fine over my AP and I have it port forwarded via my router. I can remotely access it from the public side of the Internet.
However when clicking the "test" button after setting up my parameters, I get an error message that says,
"Test ... Failed
The message is denied by the server. Maybe because of the anti-spam privacy of the server"
I spent an hour on the phone with my ISP who was watching my inbound request to his email server. He said it appears all my settings are correct but does not know why my email is not being received properly. This guy isn't new to the job and is rarely stumped until now.
Authentication is not required and he said the mail server is Qmail and not running anything special, just the basic stuff.
Anyone with a similar problem?
Help,
Randy

I am having the same problem...I have used the same SMTP settings in outlook express and they work fine. There is something odd with the camera software.

Work with Foscam. I had the same problem on the same camera and it was a firmware issue with Foscam. They sent me 3 files to upgrade and it worked fine. I can send you the files if you want but I won't be back in the U.S. until late next week. It's Saturday morning now in Shenzhen, so you may have to wait until Sunday evening to contact them. Also, make sure it's a real Foscam, because I have both real and clone and I updated both, but it took different firmware.
Foscam will have you give them numbers from the bottom of your camera to make sure it is Foscam. This is for your own good so you don't brick your camera.

Please check in with me when you return to the USA. In the mean time, I will contact Shenzhen and explain the situation to them.
Thanks!!!!

I would check to make sure you have a domain name in your camera. Also check the ECM settings if your camera support it. _________________ I can record your video remotely. PM for details.

Do you mean domain name as in the name of the SMTP server? Yes that is done.
I worked with my Internet provider and he sat at his email server console while I attempted to send emails to it. He could see everything I sent him but his didn't know why his server would not accept my email.
Foscam sent me the latest firmware but it matches what my new camera already has in it.
I don't know of any ECM settings my camera has in it.

No I mean domain name as in domain name.
Example SMTP transmision:
server: 220 hi I'm your server
you: EHLO <domain name> <---------- some email servers require this some don't
server: Well hello <domain name>
mail from: my email
OK you can send.

Yes I have the domain name of my email server listed in the SMTP line.
It is mail.farmtel.net
Foscam says I need to add a www to the front of that but my ISP says no. I tried it both ways and still no emails.

You are getting the 2 confused.
You should have all of the below in your camera:
IP Address.
Subnet Mask.
Gateway.
DNS Server.
Domain Name.
SMTP Server.
You could run your camera thru a hub and run wireshark to figure it out for sure. _________________ I can record your video remotely. PM for details.
