Can anyone advise on the video management software I should purchase.
There are several installers trying to sell me the IP video surveillance system for use in my company.

We narrowed down the system configuration, with Axis IP cameras, but I can't decide the software which I should use.

In our country there is a web shop for video surveillance systems, and I've heard for Netavis and Milestone as referential software but can't decide.

Is there really big difference between these two, I need it for system of 24 cameras.

If anyone can help, thank you.

There's lots of software, a lot depends on your budget. I looked at Milestone, but it's very pricey as you pay per camera. Same with Axis software. There's some software out there like BlueIris that people seem to like that costs $50 for unlimited amount of cameras. There's a couple of guys on the forum like 40thfloor that sell software you can try and their price is reasonable.

It's not so much about what's different about them than what's the same. They will all let you store the video from the cameras, let you setup motion video triggers, let you view past events. they will all have a grid of cameras, sort of like a thumbnail view of each camera and you can click on one and see it at full size.

What's different is the same as what's different with any software, will you get the support you need, will it be stable, is it easy to use, is it well documented, can I try it and get a refund if I don't like it.

Things I would ask is does it support the latest compression technology (H.264), can I view the cameras from an iPhone or Blackberry, does it come with backup capabilities, can I view the video remotely on the internet, does it support remote drives (USB or NAS). What PC hardware is needed to support 24 cameras? What's the most amount of cameras that can be supported by 1 PC? Can multiple PC's be used and monitored from one PC?
