Well if you bought on eBay, it must be good . What IP address did you use to access the camera at home and what IP address did you use to access the camera at the hotel?
Did you configure the router's firewall to forward port 80 to the camera's IP address? _________________ For network camera articles and reviews, visit my blog at http://ipcamnetwork.wordpress.com

OK the IP address i used at home was 192.168.2.17
but at the hotel when i clicked on the "IP CAMREA TOOL" there was no IP address for me to click on
and as for the router's firewall and something being forwarded you got me lost
a friend told me that any idiot can hook one of these up, but when i told him to explain it to me after the fact, well HE'S AN IDOIT.
sorry i don't understand what you are talking about, I'm not that good on computers, I'm the guy that put black tape over the time on the VCR to stop the clock from flashing
if someone could please tell me how to do this it would be greatly appreciated. but make sure an IDIOT can understand
thank all for your understanding

Any IP address that starts with 192.168. or 10. is reserved for LAN addresses. It' for internal network use only. When you are outside your network, you need to use the address that your ISP assigned to your router, the WAN address. The easiest way to find out what your WAN address you have is to go to a website like http://www.whatsmyip.org/ There is no way on earth that the IP lookup tool that Foscam gave you will tell you this. It's only designed to scan your LAN.
That was the easy part. Now it gets very complicated and you may need to fashion a hat out of tin foil and wear it before proceeding. It's for your own protection.
Part of your routers jobs is to prevent people from getting in. They call this a firewall. Without it, people would be able to hack into your computer. But in your case, you want to put a hole in your firewall big enough to let anyone access your camera (anyone that knows your camera password and hopefully you changed that from the default).
They do this by assigning a port number (default for Foscam is 80) to the LAN IP Address for your camera, in your case it's 192.168.2.17. But there's a catch, by default Foscam uses DHCP, meaning it gets a random IP address everytime you turn it on. You don't want that, you want to pick your own that will survive well into the future. So login to the camera, click on For Administrator, then click on Basic Network settings, then uncheck the box that says Obtain Addres from DHCP and fill in the blank form. I would suggest
IP Addr 192.168.2.80
Subnet Masek 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.2.1
DNS server 192.168.2.1
http port 80
Then click submit, wait a little bit and then try accessing the camera by going to 192.168.2.80 and if that works, you are ready for the next step.
Now go into your router with the router's manual in hand, login to it's admistrative screen and look up how to setup port forwarding. Then enter this new IP address and port number and select TCP and save that.
Now go to your broswer and put in the WAN address and if you did everything well, you will be able to access the camera. Some routers block loop back, so if it doesn't work, go to a different network, a hotel, mcdonalds, etc. and try connecting that way.
You may now remove the tin foil hat.

The Foscam is a computer and is independent of any pc or laptop. What you needs to configure the routers firewall. What brand and model router do you have? _________________ For network camera articles and reviews, visit my blog at http://ipcamnetwork.wordpress.com

Ahh, the 2Wire that phone company DSL gives you for signing up. Had that one, they don't last that long, mine started acting funnny after 2 years. Port forwarding on this router is hit & miss, so don't feel bad if it doesn't work. When I tossed mine, I got the Netgear DSL Modem/ Wireless router at Target, works much better.
So lets proceeds, do you know how to connect to the router? 2Wire usually has an icon in the Windows tray or you can connect to it from Internet Explorer using the gateway address which is likely 192.168.1.1. It should look something like this -
Click the Firewall tab on top and then Firewall settings -
Us the "select computer" to select your camera.
Click on "add definition" and enter an application name like foscam1. Then chose TPC and enter the number 80 for port range, both from and to and map.
Then click the Add Definition button and click Back and select the application you just created (foscam1) and click Add button between boxes.
Click Done and that's it, you are done.
To see the camera from outside, you need to use the external IP address called the WAN address. Go to http://www.whatsmyip.org/ and it will tell you what that address is. This changes from time to time, so make sure you check what it is before you leave.
If you get this far, pat yourself on the back and the next step is setting up DDNS, but first get to this point. _________________ For network camera articles and reviews, visit my blog at http://ipcamnetwork.wordpress.com

but in "select computer" i have 192.168.2.17 and 192.168.2.16
if i remember right i do believe one of them was what it was before i changed it to 192.168.2.80
but so far i can understand damn this feels good.
