Hi,
I need to set up an IP camera (hidden in a smoke detector) that will be installed in a public hall. I will have internet access in an office "A" right next to the smoke detector camera and this could be wired or wireless and I will be able to run power to the camera. I do not require audio, just video and B&W is fine (don't need color)
I will actually not be accessing the video from the office mentioned, but from a remote location "B". Odd, but that's the situation. So I have the following questions:
1) Can any of you recommend a specific smoke detector camera that will provide the best resolution (as mentioned, don't need color or audio) or are they all pretty much the same?
2) As a newbie, it's unclear to me whether I need a PC in the office "A", or if I can simply use a wired or wireless connection to a router in "A" and access the video footage from location "B" through the router? My preference would be for no PC or DVR in location "A" if that's possible.
3) I assume I need software to manage the video stream and set it up. Any recommendations for a simple PC based software program to handle this. As mentioned this is just a one camera set-up streaming to one remote location so I don't need multiple camera software.
4) I would like to record the video to a hard drive (or I suppose DVR if necessary) in location "B". I'd like this recording to be active upon motion detection only so that I don't have 24 hours of footage per day. My guess is it will be activated about 40 times per day and I only need perhaps 10 seconds of video when activated each time. Will the software mentioned above handle this task?
Am I forgetting anything? Your assistance is hugely appreciated. Thanks!

Hidden IP cameras are very rare found, there are almost none . You have two options though:
1) to use an analog hidden camera in a PIR detector or in a smoke detector. There are analog hidden cameras but not network ones;
2) to use an analog hidden camera in a PIR detector or in a smoke detector but connected to a network video server and then to record it with the video server's software;
3) to use an analog hidden camera in a PIR detector or in a smoke detector but connected to a network video server and NVR (Network Video Recorder) and record the video feed on the PC. _________________ Whatever your ip surveillance need is we are willing to help you meet it!
