Is there anyone that can help with milestone remote view. I have tried but cant get the remote client to connect to milestone.
I have set up a user account and forwarded the port in the router but is just wont connect. not even within my own network. The manual don't seem to help.
please any milestone experts out there. I'm UK based.

When you put the public IP and port in an IE browser from outside, do you get the Milestone start page? If not, do you get the start page from inside the network using the LAN IP/port?
If you don't get the start page, from inside the network then you will need to make sure Windows Firewall is either disabled or has an exception for whatever port the Image Server is using (default: 80). If this checks OK, make sure IIS/Apache etc. aren't using the same port as the Image Server.
If you get the start page on the inside, and not the outside, then your router/firewall is the point of failure and you will need to verify that port forwarding is configured properly.
If you get the start page on the outside, but you cannot login, make sure you enter the username in the same case as is setup in the Image Server Administrator.
If you can connect, but your camera views say "Connecting....Failed to Connect", then you will need to make sure that in Image Server administrator you have entered the public IP address of your network in the Outside IP Address field, and if you are forwarding port 80 -> 80 in your firewall, then you will enter 80 in the outside port field as well.
Does this help? What version of the software are you using?
Edited...
Sorry, didn't notice that you said you cannot connect within your own network. My first troubleshooting step above will help here...

If this doesn't solve the problem, try opening Image Server Administrator and change the Engine Port from 80 to 8080 or some other unused port. If the windows firewall is disabled and you have no success on a random unused port, maybe your anti-virus is blocking access? _________________ Support Engineer

ok lets start from the begining
I have setup and have running on a farm 9 axis cameras running on milestone enterprise 6 on a xp professional pc.
I need to setup remote access at the customers office. using milestone remote client. v2.3
I have have set up the 30 day trial version of milestone enterprise at home and am trying to find out how to set up the remote connection.
under the "image server admin" I have set up a user account and password and given full priv I have tried a number of different ports and seem to get the best result with port 800.
if I try to log in using remote client I can connect ,but only if using port 800. If I try the following port 80 8080 8081 can't connect even though all are port forwarded.
when I can connect, remote client says that I have connected and the camera is in the views window but all I get is the milestone graphic in the right had window were the image is. can you confirm the the ip address that I put into outside IP is my static IP address and not the router address?
I have not tried this from outside of my network yet.
hope you understand Ian

Okay, well first things first, with XProtect Enterprise 6.0 you should be using Remote Client 3.0 or Smart Client 3.0
Second, if you are on a LAN, it doesn't matter what port you use on the server as long as the port is
1. Unused (by IIS, Apache or otherwise)
2. A TCP exception is made for it in Windows Firewall (or the firewall is disabled)
3. No anti-virus/anti-spyware software is installed and blocking access
The same can be said for the port you use through the firewall for remote access. Some ISP's block the use of port 80 because they don't allow "Web Servers" to run on residential networks. I wouldn't be surprised if they also blocked ports like 8080/81/8081 etc since these are commonly used to get around the block. Fortunately they can't block 65536 ports
If you have not created any views in the Remote Client yet, you will not actually see any video. Upon the first use, you need to click on the Setup tab, create a group (either in the shared or private viewgroup folders) and then at least one view. With the view created, you can drag&drop cameras (or static images, or websites) into it, then click the Live tab and see live video.
Yes, the "Outside IP" and "Outside Port" fields in the Image Server Administrator should be the public IP address of the network the server is on, and the port used to forward to the server.
Basically whatever is in the outside IP/port fields is where the camera controls will try to connect to the server and retrieve streams from while outside the network. The server determines the source IP address of the client and whether that IP is local or "outside" If it is outside, the public IP and port are communicated to the controls.
If you continue to have problems, you might attach a screenshot to your post, or better yet, send an e-mail to support at milestonesys com where I or one of the other support team members can help. Feel free to reference this thread _________________ Support Engineer
