|
|
Hi everyone,
I have a simple home network for a few windows machines, both wired and wireless, and will soon be adding 2 Axis 207 cameras to it. The wireless part of the network is not terribly reliable but getting the cameras hooked into the wired part could be difficult.
One idea I had was to wire the two cameras together and include a wireless access point and a network attached storage (NAS) drive. I hoped the cameras could write straight to the NAS drive and we could view them live when the wireless is working but if it cuts out any activity would still be recorded on the NAS drive. As you appreciate this idea depends on the cameras being able to write straight to the drive. Otherwise I will have to find a way to make the wireless reliable, wire the cameras all the way or put a PC on the camera's wired loop (none of which really appeal).
I should probably also say that the cameras are being installed because we have been burgled recently and a few years ago robbed, so they won't be used for day to day monitoring.
Thanks in advance

Hi, you are going to struggle getting the 207 to write directly to NAS storage. You may be able to FTP to the NAS but never really done anything on this lines. I have a 207 in my demo kit and will check the function of the camera if it will allow you to FTP to remote source.

Thanks John, I'd be interested to know if FTP is possible.

Looked throught the camera settings and doesn't appear to have the option to specify a location to FTP to. The camera does support FTP but I would assume this is for inbound requests and not to copy images to a remote location. I have seen cameras mentioning FTP so its possible. You can get NAS that has FTP support after a quick search in google.
Hope this helps!
Need to investigate FTP usage and if its practical.
Anyone else had any success with FTP?
John

Way too late to reply to this really, but for info, we use Axis 207 and 207W cameras, and they can indeed ftp images, since firmware 4.4 and before this if you go behind the scenes in "plain config" mode.
Anyway, it is possible to either ftp or http post images to a remote server.
We mainly use the http route simply because we want to process the incoming images and not just dump them on the server using ftp.

It would be very nice if a camera would write mpeg files onto a network drive.
I would modify the firm if i could
