I am thinking of installing a set of wireless IP cameras after our building got broken into last night and our lawn mower was stolen. Ever since we moved into this house, we've been broken into in our home, cd players have been stolen from our car in the driveway in the middle of the night, and even simple Halloween decorations are not safe hanging out on the front porch.
Several years ago I had some indoor only cameras that were from X10. I thought the picture quality was not that great and the overall wireless experience I got from them was not a very pleasant one.
I would like to get about 6 cameras (wireless IP preferred) and be able to mount all of them but maybe 1 outside. Night vision would be great so it could also record in the dark.
I am going to set these up so that they watch for motion and when motion is detected, have it start uploading via FTP the images it captures. If it could auto create folders based on the date, that would be very helpful too.
I would like to get about 6 cameras so that three can aim at every entry doorway that leads into the house and the other 3 will be outside just facing the building or driveway and one in our building incase someone does get in again.
Since I would like to find something capable of supporting that many cameras, I would like something semi affordable. I have seen some GREAT 700 cameras, but there is no way I could afford six at those prices.
What type of cameras would be best to use in a setup like that, and which software (if any) would be best recommended to go with it.
Any help deciding would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping to set this up sometime soon, within the next few weeks if possible.
Thanks in advance! _________________ http://haroldweaver.com

heweaver,
What is your budget for all the cameras or per camera? The ones we use might work but are a little pricy. But then again that just might be a point of view because there are still some out there that are even more expensive.

I am looking for the very same thing, only maybe 3 cameras to keep an eye on my folks cabin in the woods. We'd like it both for watching wildlife as well as for trespassers. What price range is there for this type of set up?
Watching this thread closely.

flem0061,
Well, we are using 2.4GHz & moving to 5.8GHz but that won't work for what you're speaking about. You need something like 900MHz to get thru the trees. And I don't know of any wireless outdoor IP cameras that use frequency. If you have line of sight you can check the prices on the ones we use at www.wirelessoutdoorcam.com. But they won't be able to penetrate the woods too well.
