I was hoping somebody could lend their expertise on our web cam requirements. We are putting a web cam on at the end of a dock about 450 feet away from the office where the WiFi source is. I am thinking this might be a little bit far for a standard Linksys router... will we need some sort of amplification? If so what is recommended?

We also need :
outdoor enclosure
Pan tilt zoom
at least 15x zoom

additional info:
we have a power source at the webcam location.
The webcam will be positioned on top of a piling to enable a 360° panoramic.
Other features similar to this camera: http://www.networkcamerareviews.com/networkcameras/sony/SNC-RZ30N/camera_details.html

Thank you very much for the recommendations and feedback.

AmalgamVirgo,
Try looking at the system we are using at our construction job sites at www.wirelessoutdoorcam.com. They have two wireless outdoor PTZ IP camera systems but we have only used the cheaper one thus far. And we tested it from one job site to another about 1-2 miles and it worked so 450' shouldn't be an issue for them. But we used one wireless camera system as an access point and the other as a client station. Because our wireless linksys box couldn't go that far so we just ran a ethernet cable to the access point camera and used it to connect to a couple of other wireless cameras. Over that distance, the PTZ controls were a little jerky because of thelatency but it was still workable once you got used to it. I'm planning on putting a panel antenna on the wireless access point one and one on the one that 1-2miles and see how much more bandwidth I can get.

I am curious about the image quality of the cameras that they have; why don't they have any links to working cameras online? Do you know of any that are online?

AmalgamVirgo,
Don't know of any online and I'm not allowed to put any of ours out there for public access, sorry. But I can tell you this, they have model 1600W camera and a Hikvision camera. We bought the 1600W camera first time around and we liked it but when we had purchasing order the next two they ordered the Hikvision ones instead. But after seeing the image on the these cameras we called the company up and asked them if we could change the 1600W camera to a Hikvision (for an additional cost of course) and they did. But the 1600W was definitely a good bang for the buck. But when you have a company footing the bill...well you might spend a little bit more.
