Security Camera Suggestion

The camera search function on this site is a great tool but they need to add outdoor/indoor as one of the options...

I don't know much about security cameras but I did read quite a bit on this site and others which just scratched the surface. Here are my requirements. Let me know if any of these requirements don't make sense.

1. Outdoor
2. POE (highly desireable)
3. Low light capable (there is a streetlight in the area of concern). I don't know much about low light specs.
4. Mountable on eave or similar (camera mount point above camera)
5. No audio
6. No pan/tilt necessary
7. Motion Detection (I know SW usually performs this function but it appears it is built in to some cameras. I suppose this means they do not transmit video unless motion is detected which reduces network traffic. This feature is not necessary but might be nice).

Will use Blue Iris or LuxRiot SW.

No particular price limit, looking for good quality/value.

One of the best things you can use wireless home security cameras for is to detect movement in different areas of the house. With motion detection sensors placed around the house and connected to the camera, the setup will prove to be a formidable foe against criminals. Once movement is detected by the motion sensors, they can send signals wirelessly to the cameras that are placed around the room and the cameras will start recording all the events that are happening at that specific time. Security cameras also record whatever activity is going on in the room they're installed. This is a great way to save on power as well because wireless home security cameras need their own power source in the form of batteries. The batteries will need changing from time to time but with this setup, it could be a long time before you need to change them.

Thanks Bill, but POE is preferred. I can run cat5 no problem but running 120vac is too much trouble what with the required inspection etc.


Can someone recommend a reputable online dealer that sells to the public?

Newegg doesn't have much that meets my requirements.

You can try the 1600W camera by wirelessoutdoorcam.com . We had it for a little while and it came with a LuxRiot CD, so I am assuming it works with it. I never got a round to installing the SW. The camera was of good quality for what we paid but we ended up upgrading to higher end camera in the end.

It was fine for what we wanted to do but when we needed more our purchasing department ordered the higher end cameras. And when we realized that we could get away with spending more money on the cameras (since Purchasing set the presidence), we decided follow their lead. The 1600W's worked fine, but we also like the SD card backup that is on the Hikvision cameras in case something goes wrong with the recording or wireless system.
