|
|
Ok, I bought a panasonic PT IP Camera, hooked it up and had no problems viewing local or remotely but I did not really like the view angles and I also wanted an auto patrol feature. I returned it and bought an DLink 5300. I have had ZERO luck w/ this one and the tech support is no help. I am running off a DSL modem connected to a 5 port switch but no router. The Camera is hooked up to the switch, which had no issues w/ the prior camera. I can view the DLink camera local and I went into the config and set up the DNS. I also registered w/ Dlinkddns.com to create a dynamic site. When I check that site it does update my IP when the local IP changes so the DNS is working fine.
I can not access my camera unless I am on the local system which is pointless for me. Either the DNS address or the actual IP address just gives me an a cannot display page. I am at a loss here, my ISP said they do not block ports and I do not have a router in use, just a switch. Dlink said the local works fine so its not a camera issue. ?????????? Thanks anyone!

HI check you opened port, 80, 8000, 8080. if the port is opened and it should transmit the signals and u should able to view to remotely.
As your post suggests, u were able to view Panasonic IP camera, it must with the DLink, check the settings u have made, confirm it, or reset the whole unit and start from the first step.
try it good luck
Note: The DLink tech support team is useless, i have sent them a mail weeks back asking a script to steam live video on my company website, no reply yet.

Well getting a little closer. I am still stuck. now when I goto XXXX.DLinkddns.com I get through to my modem's configuration page so the port must be open right? I am not sure why it is not directing me to the camera instead though.

You are getting your modem's config page because that is what is listening on port 80 at that IP. If you want to access your camera you need to use the port that the camera is setup on. You will also need to make sure you setup port forwarding in your router (in this case your modem) to forward traffic from your public IP to the private IP of the camera on whatever port you set the camera on. If the camera and your modem both want to listen on port 80 you'll need to change one or the other. _________________ Mark McPherson, Developer

It's all good now. Working fine w/ no help from Dlink! Just tying to fix an issue now view it via a vista laptop.

Not that I'm saying D-Link is the best in tech support... but why should they write code for you? Do some research.
