Hello!
I'm trying to install two cameras (D-Link 6620 and 6620G) in a laboratory. I got the wizard software to recognize both cameras, I successfully changed their configurations, I was able to see their web interface, but when I unplug the crossover wire from the computer and plug the 6620 directly in the router with a regular ethernet cable, it's gone! I can't even access it through the wizard software (the camera shows up in the program, but it is impossible to reach it, I keep getting "connection timeout" error.
The same thing happens to the wireless, I was able to configure it, choose my wireless network, and all that stuff, but when I unplug the crossover cable expecting the camera to stay connected wirelessly, I get nothing. I tried turning the camera off and back on and I also tried using it plugged to the router, but it behaves exactly like 6620.
Does anybody know what may be wrong?
How can I set up my router for port forwarding if I want to access them from anywhere in the internet (supposing, of course, that I will be able to get them to work properly)?
Thank you!

not sure about the setup part. mine continue to work after unplugging the ethernet cable without even resetting them. forgive my ignorance but what is this crossover cable you're using and why are you using it to set them up?
I start by running an ethernet cable from the 6620 to the router. I turn on the wizard software/recognize them/set them up and unplug the ethernet cable. It continues working wirelessly.
As far as the router port forwarding, it's usually not very hard assuming you have a mainstream router. You assign a port to your camera. Then you go into the router's firmware and forward that port. reading your router manual's section on forwarding is easier than me explaining it.

Crossover wired ethernet cable is only used for direct computer-to-computer hookup and I'd be surprised if that would work connected to a camera. It's possible the camera detects the crossover and configures itself, as would most network switches, today. Anyway, I'd get rid of the crossover cable (I haven't used one in years) and just use regular cable. Unless you can look at the wiring at each end with a mag-glass, I doubt you can recognize a x-over from a regular. Why the wifi doesn't work I don't know. Sound like if you didn't have bad luck you wouldh't have any luck at all. _________________ Home to mobile stuff

Well, I can't imagine why he would even attempt it that way. That's not the way you're supposed to do it.
The reason the wireless doesn't work is that you have to correctly configure it wired first, then the wireless will work.

I used the crossover cable because in both cameras' manuals it is explained very clearly that the setup can be made connecting them in the router by a regular cable or directly into the computer through a crossover cable. I used the crossover cable because the setup software could not detect any of the cameras plugged in the router through regular cables.
For the 6620G, I configured the wireless connection correctly (the camera detects the network fine). But when I unplug it, it does not work!
Now I'm trying to connect the wired one directly into my switcher with a stactic IP address (yes, i do have the actual IP address), but still no success.
Thank for the replies, I really hope to solve this mistery and will be happy to share its solution!

I'm sure it's a crossover... I've used it before. And the software most of the times (when in good mood) recognizes the cameras.
