Ok, thanks,
I could have looked for days.
There is no activeX listed in my computer, but it still works anyway.
How do you explain that?

I went to my active x and disabled the Dlink CS viewer and I was unable to get past your login. Re-enabled it and working again. You must have it somewhere but I can't explain why it doesn't show up. Possibly it was loaded as a file when you installed the software.
My wife has ordered a new computer and with some luck it will arrive this week. I will make a note to test your camera and see what happens using a fresh install of XP.
Another way to find the add-ons in IE is Tools-> Manage add-ons (forgot about that location) a little easier to explain.
You have nice website, will have to work on one of your benders it would have come in handy building my trailer. If she sees all that copper work I will have a major garden project.

Ok, I spoke to soon, and I generally speak before brain engages.
I dropped down more files, and there it was (CSViewer), enabled of course.
Those homemade tools I made worked good, they were a lot cheaper then to buy them, but I gave up on that stuff for now.
Thanks for all your help.

Just finished setting up my wife's new computer. When I try to view a 950G camera a bar pops up at the top of explorer asking me to allow a download of activex. After installing activex I can view the camera.
Strangely this is not the activex that I need to view the 900W and XP does not prompt you for the download. It must be downloaded manually from Dlink to use the activex viewing feature. Fortunately the 900w also uses Java so this is not a proplem for most.

I returned my DCS-950g camera, because the wep encoding would not work.
I do plan on getting another one , and hopefully everything will work in the next one.
I think for the money, the 950 is a good deal.
But I think the firmware still has bugs, and for a company like D-Link they should know better then to put a product on the market before doing all the tests on it.
Maybe they need to look at this forum to find out all the problems of there products.
Right now I have a cheap webcam running in my computer room, what a world of difference in quality between the two.

You can access streaming video from our webcam via either:
http://www.the-carradale-goat.co.uk/streaming.htm
or
http://www.the-carradale-goat.co.uk/streaming1.htm
The latter seems to connect faster.
Whichever you use you'll need IE as it's using an ActiveX control. I haven't been able to get the JavaScript version working yet.
What you'll see is a view of a field (with sheep, birds, and farmers from time to time) and in the distance the sea, Carradale Point, and the hills of the Isle of Arran.
I'd be interested in any feedback as to which of these two URLs works best.
Cheers
Gary

The first link works great.
Only the text and a white box appears where the image should be in the second link. Also the second link crashes IE 6. When you try to close the window the error box 'the program is not repsonding' appears and then 'all' IE windows close.

Same thing here....
First Link works great. The Second Link displays a white box instead of a video. Also in the status bar it says "Frame:0 fps."
Both links lock up IE when I try to close them. _________________ Administrator

I couldn't see both. Internet Explorer just closes down. What network camera are you using?

Very nice image...How about the crashes now?
Is this camera the wireless version (950g)?
Is it wired or wireless connected?

Ya know, fellas, as a website developer I gotta tell ya that Firefox cannot even recognize any of this...not one bit. Seriously, it's a waste of time- at least commercially. The pros have hacked through the browser problems with software if you want genuine public access. Me, I've got some planning to do to get all my public cameras to work on all browsers. Installing Active X software in someone's hard drive per visit is not cool. I'm fishing on this site for something to show clients... If someone pays me for something other than a security cam, I'll be forced to hand them a bill for software that works with all browsers, not just IE. I've got java working to display my panoramas (not webcams) and I just install the software on my server and it plays without a download. You do have to have the dreaded Microsoft nod to get er workin' though, since they had a lawsuit going on with Sun...ugly lawsuit, messed up viewing for everyone...anyway, here's my site: http://realpanoramas.com/feature.htm if you want to see how some of the java works. Sorry, no webcams to show...yet. There's got to be a better way to view these webcams than this. If these vendors were dead serious about selling their cams and beating competitors, they'd spend the money and give up the pro software version licenses with a cam purchase...not a lame free version that's not compatible with anything but one browser. Otherwise, you run off visitors that don't have the right stuff to see it. And it's going to get worse, IE7's here now... _________________ Action combined with knowledge is real power

Btos,
You get what you pay for bud. We use Video-Insight, on of the more costly software applications I have ran across. It answers every application that our client has. Most of my cameras can not go down; everyone from a security guard to Homeland has used my system.
The web client for video-insight cross platform, including all pda/phone devices. How important is that to my application? Well it’s worth the $1,000 price tag that comes with the iP software.
Solutions are out there, sometimes not very cheap. If you have the ability to sit down and re-invent the wheel as far as archiving software goes, then you may want to invest time first to see exactly what clients are after.
Example? There are tons of recording solutions that utilize POS, however I have never seen ONE pos utilize cctv. I want hot links on my transactions! I want clickable credit card, associate card, checking account, even products, which allow me to search for similar. I want video links built into the POS software, so if I want to watch a transaction it is as easy as 1 click and up comes windows media player... Retail Link is badass software, made by Wal-Mart =( Probably the best I have ever seen or used. Still no video. _________________ For Sale
