|
|
I was wondering if someone can help me out. I just purchased a D-Link DCS-6620G, and have a few bugs to work out.
1) I cannot get it to work at all wireless. It works fine hooked up to my router, but if I try to go wireless, it does not work. I own a Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router, Model WPN824.
2) I have it set up properly that I can view and control the camera from the Internet, but every three minutes, the screen goes black for 15 sec, then recovers.
3) When one person is connected to the camera via the internet, it locks out other viewers even if they have permission to access the camera? It should allow mutiple viewers. Could high resolution be the problem?
I would greatly appreciate any input and advice.
Best regards,
Nancy

Hey nancyn,
1) Are you using WEP or WPA?
2) Try upgrading the the latest firmware. Whent he screen goes blank does it say "connecting..." at the top?
3) Bandwidth could be an issue, try lowering the framrate and resolution. Are the other users logging in with the root/admin username or did you create a demo account for them?

Hi Wes,
1) Are you using WEP or WPA? WPA-TSK
2) Try upgrading the the latest firmware. Whent he screen goes blank does it say "connecting..." at the top? I have downloaded the latest. When it goes blank, the screen says nothing. The date and time stamp even disappear. Right before the picture comes back, the http address appears, and it connects.
3) Bandwidth could be an issue, try lowering the framrate and resolution. Are the other users logging in with the root/admin username or did you create a demo account for them? I did not try lowering the bandwith, I have it set very high. I will try that advice, and I made account demos for them.
Thanks,
Nancy
Cheers!

Double check your wireless settings. Usually the problem is one configuration setting being off. Make sure both the camera and router are set to 802.11B or 802.11G - make sure they match.
That is strange that the video will go black every few minutes. Could also be related to your bandwidth. Try lowering it and see if it still goes black. Do it while no other users are logged into the camera so you know no one is fooling around with settings. _________________ Administrator

Hi everyone,
Thank you Wes for your advice so far, but I still have some issues with my D-Link DCS-6620G.
1) I cannot get it to work at all wireless. It works fine hooked up to my router, but if I try to go wireless, it does not work. I own a Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router, Model WPN824. It would not work with that, so I then purchased a D-Link DI-824 router to see if compatibility was the issue, that worked even worse. It had dropout issues, so I am back the Netgear RangeMax Router. This time I changed the security from WPA?TSK to WEP for both the router and the camera. Still no luck. When I get home tonight I will set the Netgear to only 802.11G, not auto, and see if that works. Any other suggestions?
2) I have it set the camera up properly that I can view and control the camera from the Internet, but every three minutes, the screen goes black for 15 sec, then recovers. I have tried reducing the bandwidth, I have tried changing every setting, and made sure the newest firmware is installed. I also have made sure no other users are on at the same time, but the dropout continues. Could this problem be because the router is having issues with the camera? When I am home, using my home computer, tied to the same router, it does not happen. Any further suggestions?
3) Another issue, if I want to have motion jpeg video, the audio cuts out. I know many of you out ?here? own a 4xEM, and the conf. controls are similar to the Dlink camera. What settings have you found that work best for having ?quality? streaming video and audio at the same time. I use Comcast Cable as my provider, and my router always has good signal strength.
4) What do people do about using a static ip address? I was thinking about looking into TZO.com. If I obtain a static IP address from them, and use their software, which I believe must be running to properly maintain the static address. Would that solve any of my above issues? What are the pros and cons of using TZO? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Best regards,
Nancy

1) So you were able to get it to work wireless with the DI-824? If so, it looks like the issue could be with the Netgear router. I would contact Netgear and tell them you were able to get the wireless camera to work on another router but that the Netgear does not work.
2) When the screen goes black, does it say "connecting..." at the top? I would think this could be bandwidth issue but you said you tried lowering the bandwidth. Try changing it to the bare minimum (half size video, 1 fps, bit rate at the lowest). If that doesn't fix your problem there could be an issue with your camera :S
3) I use MPEG4 for streaming which works with audio. I have the audio set to 32kbps bit rate. Again, this might not be possible with your Internet Connection if you are experiencing bandwidth issues. My Internet connection is just a standard DSL 3MB connection. I will have to test audio with MJPEG streaming to give you more info...
4) TZO is a good service, but you have to pay for it. I use DynDNS.com which is free. If your router supports DDNS (Dynamic DNS) you can set it up in your router to update your TZO/DynDNS account with the new IP everytime your router reconnects to the Internet.
Hope this info helps you out. Let me know if you have any other questions _________________ Administrator

Hi everyone,
Again, thank you so much for your advice Wes, it is greatly appreciated.
I fixed a few things, which I will list here, in hopes it will help someone with similiar problems in the future.
1) I got the Netgear Router, and the camera to work with each other wirelessly now. I used the Infrastructure mode, instead of AD hoc, and now I can set up the camera anywhere I want....yea!
I tried setting the above settings to the lowest, but it still had problems. I tried one thing, I switched using port 80, to port 800. It still drops out, but not as frequently. Is my ISP blocking the port....is that why there is drop outs?
3) I use MPEG4 for streaming which works with audio. I have the audio set to 32kbps bit rate. Again, this might not be possible with your Internet Connection if you are experiencing bandwidth issues. My Internet connection is just a standard DSL 3MB connection. I will have to test audio with MJPEG streaming to give you more info...
Yes, if you could try MJEG out that would be great!
4) Do you ever use UDP? Is this better for audio and video? The manual says HTTP is for video only.
5) TZO is a good service, but you have to pay for it. I use DynDNS.com which is free. If your router supports DDNS (Dynamic DNS) you can set it up in your router to update your TZO/DynDNS account with the new IP everytime your router reconnects to the Internet.
I signed up for DynDNS, but now that i use port 800, i cannot use the service. Any way to fix this?
Thanks again for any advice here.
Best regards,
Nancy
