I hope everyone realizes that most if not all DVRs have remote viewing capability and you do not need IP cameras for this feature. _________________ www.thewireguys.tv

That's true, but when the opening post was created (2005) equipement was not as advanced for CCTV DVR's.

The poll is sort of limiting as you can only pick one answer and the single thing that I know you can't do with any CCTV/DVR solution is megapixel resolution and image quality. Todays' DVR's can do just about all else. The real question is, is it worth it? Are IP cameras worth the complexity and higher camera costs. And to some it's not. Doesn't take a network engineer to plug a CCTV camera to a DVR and make them work. But then, for me, that's the fun, the challange of it all and in the world of HD, how can you be happy with D1 resolution? _________________ For network camera articles and reviews, visit my blog at http://ipcamnetwork.wordpress.com

Doesn't take a "network engineer" to plug in a network camera and make it work, either. Really it doesn't. The idea you need a full IT department to use network cameras is one of the greatest myths of the industry.

But it helps to have network experienced installers . And who plugs cctv cameras into a dvr? Sounds like its time to upgrade.

For me, not having to route video coax around my house back to my central computer is the clincher. _________________ Fraser.
