Hi all,

I have to prepare a surveillance system for a shop. We have to have 4 IP camera's (1 dome, 3 regular) working with PoE, and we have to store about 7 days of video + audio of all 4 camera's at a resolution of 640x480x30fps (I think that would be enough). It has to work standalone, so no pc. It has to be accessible over the internet.

So I was thinking to buy a Synology DS109 (supports up to 5 camera's) with a disk of 1TB and 4 camera's from ACTi (like the ACM-7411 dome, and some regulars). I read about the Synology Surveillance Station 2 software, and it sounded pretty nice.

Does this sound like a good setup? Do I have enough disk space with 1TB to store everything? Are there other decent brands you guys prefer (preferably cheaper, cost is important)?

Thanks a lot for your opinions Exclamation

No reactions?
Is this a good setup or can I improve something without letting it cost a lot more?
Thanks!!

I'm not sure? Have a link or something to look at for the company? I've never heard of them.
To accurately figure out the storage needed, you'll need to know what the file size of each frame is which depends on the compression codec. The amount of time in which you'll be recording on any given day and how many frames per second you want to record for.
Standalone can be a PC as well, especially one designed for surveillance and not an add on card. You'll typically get a host of various features you won't get with an embedded system, like the ability to upgrade with a download vs needing a eprom burner.

Thanks for the replies!

Is Synology good enough quality? Are there other brands that are equal or lower in price that also have NAS drives with recording software that can work independently (without pc connected)?

Thanks!
