IPCAMWLPTZ Review
Reviewed by
Design: 7.0 / 10 [Also see my review of the nearly identical Dlink 6620G]. The design of the camera isn't bad except for the color being stark white. The white makes the camera stand out and makes it very noticeable.
Image Quality: 9.9 / 10 For it being an \"internet\" camera, the image is incredible. The default settings give a great image. The higher settings are even better. The camera views very well in lower lighting. The low lux feature works great in extreme low lighting.
Easy of Use: 8.5 / 10 Ease of use starts at a low point. However, once you learn the camera it becomes much easier to use. I rated this camera's ease of use higher than the nearly identical Dlink 6620G due to the 4XEM's manual being slightly better, along with their website and tech support being astronomically better.
Connectivity: 9.0 / 10 Once I figured out that it didn\'t work well with wpa-psk (and reverted to wep), it hasn\'t lost connection. So far, it's been great. Although it doesn't appear to be a bandwidth issue, the click to center/pan/tilt controls are cleaner and smoother than the Dlink 6620G.
Other Features: 9.9 / 10 (Just like the Dlink 6620G) The features are what sell this cam. The pan/tilt range is incredible. The 10x zoom is much better than I thought it would be. I can zoom thru my bedroom window, thru a screen and watch my neighbor\'s kids playing basketball clearly 3 houses down and across the street. Motion detection auto recording is great. Motion detection auto email is great. Microphone is incredible. You can even hook upo audio out to hear a remote viewer talking to you. The possibilities are endless.
Strengths (Just like the Dlink 6620G) Great image quality. Great pan/tilt/zoom capability. Great features with endless possibilities. Great for security and great for fun.
A big strength is that this cam is roughly $100 cheaper than the Dlink 6620G. And completely opposite of Dlink, 4XEM's tech support is stellar. It's obvious that they pride themselves on knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly tech support.
Weaknesses The big downfall of this cam is that the web interface for this cam is not digitally signed by microsoft. This requires you (and any other viewer) to lower your Internet Explorer security settings in order to view. This can be a major hassle for many and practically impossible for some people trying to view from work.
Also, as mentioned above, I don't care for the white color that makes the camera stand out.
Summary This is an excellent camera that is great for security and for fun. You can do all sorts of things with this camera.
This camera and the Dlink 6620G are virtually identical. The accompanying software is identical.
The big pluses of this camera are that it's cheaper and the tech support is great.
The major negative is the issue with having to lower your security settings. 4XEM claims to have this remedied soon however.
